South Warren 28 Bowling Green 24

Amazing game!

Congratulations to the Spartans who earned a very hard fought victory.

Could there be a second meeting?

We shall see!

Just a lot of choices I think overall from the Purples side of it you have to sit back and wonder what if.

A lot of folks were calling for a Purple blowout.. I thought that was over the top personally. I predicted a one score win for BG and I’m not overly shocked with how this one ended. There are worse losses to take IMO but this does set up an entirely different course than what the Purples saw last year. South deserves to be congratulated. Until next time!

5A just got more interesting.

Onward!

I’m eagerly awaiting seeing what this does to the RPIs. We could be looking at some very different matchups than expected.

I was wrong on this one.  Thought the purples were the heavy favorite.  After watching, these are 2 pretty even teams.  S Warren extremely well coached.  Loved the defensive game plan.

I don't know enough about how the RPI will play out to know if they'd play in the quarterfinals, semifinals, or finals, but I do think a second-place Bowling Green team would still be a solid favorite on the road at Owensboro in the second round, which would send both clubs on their way to that potential matchup.

Really surprised by this score. SW was exceptional defensively and did a good job of keeping BG from the big plays that get them rolling on teams.

Dropped double pass that would’ve went for 6, INT up 3 and driving, tough tough fourth quarter for the purples.

It was an eventful weekend for South Warren two-way star Colton Veltcamp.

WOW, 5A football is a madhouse right now.

Agreed.  I have watched Cooper play in person twice and although talented, their line on both sides of the ball is porous.  Quarterback continues to be a star and they have playmakers on both sides of the ball.  If they get into some inclement windy weather and stingy defense they are more than beatable by ANY of the top four 5A teams.

Highlands is an anomaly.  They have a gigantic offensive line but still keep dropping back an undersized quarterback that likes to repeatedly underthrow receivers open receivers.  They SHOULD be averaging 250 yards of rushing a game and managing the clock.  Instead, they keep trying to showcase a kid at quarterback that needs to be handing the ball to a running back.  Bluebirds defense has proven to be surprisingly tough and opportunistic.  If their OC wakes up and fully commits to the run game in conjunction with that defense they're a potential problem.

I too, like so many others, was convinced The Purples would handle business on Friday but South Warren more than impressed with some outstanding disciplined defense!  They did a great job stretching that game out and making plays when it mattered most.  I cannot wait to see (NO CLUE HOW IT SHAKES OUT) a possible rematch between these two hopefully in the playoffs.  BG, S Warren, Cooper and Highlands all can bring home a Title....should be fun to see who makes the late season adjustments in order to make it happen.
