Will have to agree with you letstalk. They did not favor any team more then the other. I would like too know why they did not have three officails for the finals and the semis also.
Two officials is a All "A" thing. They will only use two officials at the "A" State Tournament next week including the finals.

I suppose that this is a budgetery thing, but it had nothing to do with the Bluegrass Officials association nor Bracken County High School.

However, if they are going to only use two, I don't understand why we couldn't have had upper echelon officials work the game. The two that had it have both worked their way up from the freshmen/jv ranks, which is fine, BUT when you get a chance to work a high profile game, I would think that they would have wanted to make a positive impression in calling the game instead of sending everybody home with a sour taste in their mouths.

My complaints are much more what they didn't call than what they did call. If early on they call the hand and body checks they get control of the games and the kids know what their limitations are. In this game there were no limitations. Guys (on both ends) were getting pounded in the paint and the ball handlers were being assaulted by each other, which makes for a very bad quality of play, and frustration for the players as well as creating a dangerous situation. Just call what is happening!

If they just "let them play" in the second half because the game was lopsided - that is a dis-service. They get paid to call the game fair and impartially for 32 minutes. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and nobody came away happy.

I don't think the host school has much of anything to do with the assigning of officials in a game like this. Let me say this--What a great job by the Bracken County group putting on a first class tourney!! Great facility and absolutely the cleanest gym I've seen!!

As far as the officiating, it was absolutely horrendous!! They even had several I know, who never complain about the calls; complaining about the calls?? No consistancy, a lot of out-of-positioning by both refs, several occasions they called the foul on the wrong kid, etc.; and I thought they came close to losing control of the game on several occasions!! Why not three refs--No idea, but I was told that's the way it is throughout the All "A"?? Sad, as it does a huge injustice to the kids who've worked so hard to get to this point!! For those who thought they favored neither team-----You watched a different game than I did????

Agree with you on the facility. Bracken should be proud to have it

These guys must have been terrible. You're not one to talk about refs and typically you don't see the "horrible officials" claims from both sides.

Great facility, nice school, good PA guy, but not such a great sound system and the concessions stand was un-organized and chaotic. At least the few games I have seen at the "Igloo" it was hard for me to understand anything that came out of the sound system.

The BBA does control who officiates the finals of the 10th Region Class "A" by assigning the officials for that game. The only control the coaches/schools have is w/their scratch sheets where each coach can scratch a certain # of officials, used to be 5 per school. This means that a scratched official cannot officiate a game that he has been scratched by a particular school.

It may be a Class "A" thing statewide not to have used 3 officials b/c of the state tourney format, but the game last night deserved 3 w/what was there.

They are bad, but not as bad as some others. I have seen them at a few games this year. But not together, it made it twice as bad.

There would have been no need for three if the two that did the game would have simply called the obvious infractions early on and gotten some measure of control.
Tom Mitchell has been very poor in his officiating the last 3 games I have seen him. He seems to let guys bang, push, handcheck, etc.

I believe he might have been the official at the A-Town/Bracken game in early December that turned a 1-and-1 bonus situation into a two shot foul, the turning point of the game might I add. He might have even been the official in last season's rivalry game that did the same. Talk about consistently poor.

He does seem to let kids get away with things they shouldn't (over-agressiveness). As the saying goes: "Good officials go unnoticed."

It's even worse when the other official in last night's game had to ask for Mr. Mitchell's assistance on a few calls he should have been in position to make correctly. Instead, the wrong call was made repeatedly.

Two times in one day I agree with Letstalk.:thumb: You are correct, is the same guy.

Glad to hear the officiating was an All A thing, so to speak.

The Coaches can vote as a group to use 3 officials lets hope they do for next year. Its only a $40.00 differecne per game. They get 60 for three and 70 for two. The host school doesnt set those guidelines

Nothing to be ashamed of for the Polar Bears in this one--They just caught a group of Mustang seniors in the first half that were probably a little tired of hearing about the '05 game for the last two years!! Great defensive effort by the 'Stangs in the first half to essentially put the game away!! Good luck to both teams the rest of the way!!

'04 game you mean?

Good Luck in Richmond

This is why I get on BGP, to read classy posts from someone who supports your school's rival. Very good post Camel1!!! Hope more could be like this.

Congrats to Bishop Brossart. Make the 10th proud at State!

Since when did the officials association decide how many people work on a game?

Didn't they use three on all state tourney games last year?
