Meat grinder is probably a good description.  They had two players injured yesterday and that schedule will surely take an additional toll on the roster throughout the season.  This was an awesome game to be sitting in the stands.  This game was right up there with any of the state championship games that Boyle has played.

Oddly the individuals working the concessions were actually pulling for Boyle County.  The game was played at Lakewood HS which typically gets beat badly every year by St. Ed.

The fans of the opposing side seem to be taken out of the game by Boyle's play and seemed to be in shock that a small public school in Kentucky could even compete on the same field as the Ohio state champions.

These teams want to schedule high ranking teams to boost their national rating but sometimes the outcome does not work out the way things were anticipated.

 

I can't recall Lakewood playing St. Ed in football in recent times but the mind isn't what it once was.

I think you’re right, maybe the concession workers meant freshman games haha. At least 20 years since they’ve played on Varsity level. Lakewood doesn’t do much for St. Ed’s schedule. 

Yesterday morning I made the two-hour plus drive to Lakewood High School to witness one, if not the most anticipated, games of the 2024 high school football season in the great state of Ohio. Boyle County, who has won four straight 4-A titles in Kentucky, vs. Lakewood St. Ed., who have won three straight D-1 state titles. Boyle County is a much smaller school and showed much more gumption than all of the public schools. especially the bigger ones, who are, for lack of better words, afraid to play the beast, known as St. Ed.

Before getting into the game, I wanted to thank the St. Ed athletic department for having rosters for both teams available at the gate for all of the fans at no charge.

Montavin Quisenberry, if not the best player in Kentucky, has to be in the conversation fast to introduce himself to everyone in the stadium when he acted as Barry Sanders would by reverisng his direction from one side of the field to the other, leaving most of his defense in his dust picking up 17 yards after making a nice catch. The Rebels slowly ordered the ball to the Eagles 1-yard, where Baylor Murphy easily found a wide-open Seneca Driver for the easy touchdown. Andrew Carr converted his point after kick to give the visitors the 7-0 lead. The drive went for 80 yards, taking 12 plays.

With 1:10 left in the first quarter, facing a fourth and eight from the Rebles, 23-yard line quarterback Thomas Csanyi found Luke Hess for the score. Kellen Moyer locked this one up at seven with his kick. The Eagles drive went for 57 yards and lasted 8 plays.

Boyle Count converted a third and ten when super talented Demauriah Brown scotted for a gain of eleven. Quisenberry took the ball to the Eagles 2 yard line with another good run. Then he scored the next time he had the ball to make this a 14-7 game, with 5:52 left in the half. The drive once again went for 80 yards, lasting 14 plays. I tried to get an interview with the great one, Quisenberry, before the season, but he did not respond.

The Eagles would get a tackle-breaking run from Tyrese Buchanan on the eighth play of the drive, setting up a game-scoring touchdown from Brandon White. The drive went for 66 yards.

With 2:30 left in the half, Branden Moore would get a yard tackle for loss, but the Rebels were able to shake that off with Quisenberry throwing the rock to Geo Brown for the 61-yard touchdown pass, making this a 21-14 game with 1:43 left.

The Eagles would go 65 yards on three plays to lock this one back up with Csanyi running in from 12 yards out. As the teams went to their locker rooms, the Boyle County crowd sounded very happy, and the Mighty Eagles fans seemed, at least to me, stunned.

The Eagles had the ball to start the 2nd half, but the Rebels defense used a tackle for loss by Jax Crowe on Brandon White to force a punt, holding the offense to 29 yards on the drive.

Quisenberry busted off a 29-yard run all the way down to the Eagles 7-yard line, then with 4:32 left in the quarter, he ended the 10-play, 66-yard drive with, you guessed it, a 7-yard touchdown run, making this a 28-21 game.

The punch that seemed to take the heart out of the Eagles came with 1:11 left in the third quarter, when Jakeem Ray picked up the Eagles pass and set the Rebel fans into a frenzy.

Boyle County would take their time in working the ball down to the Eagles 3 yard line, then on the 9th play of the drive, Quisenberry, or as I call him, the GREAT ONE, eased into the endzone to make this a 35-21 game with 9:00 left.

Seneca Driver would get Colin Tedesco for a 1-yard loss, with 7:37 remaining in the contest. Then a sack by Clifftom Yocum on Csanyi backs the Eagles up two more yards. Any chance of the Eagles coming back ended at the 6:08 mark when the GREAT ONE picked off the Eagles pass.

The final score in this one was a 24-yard field goal from Carr to make the final score 38-21.

After the game, I made my way to the field to congratulate Coach Haddix, and after a victory hug, he said,Man, that #5 is a player.

The updated national high school football rankings came out today and BC is ranked 14th.

Ok I'm with Coach Haddix Quisenberry is the best player in Kentucky and quite possibly the best football player in the country. Wow he just keeps putting up the numbers and smashing all doubters.  Kudos young man on your commitment, hard work and pure Heart! Its a joy to watch. 

What a performance from the Rebels. They have cemented themselves as the top program in the state right now. Kudos to their coaching staff. They were prepared and executed.

Pound for pound and looking at just pure football skill he is right there with the best of the best. His ability to make plays and vision on the field is absolutely incredible. There may be some at that level but there are very few. We may be a little bias but hey he is a Kentucky boy.
