Mayfield goes on the road to play the Mustangs of McCracken Co this week. McCracken lost to Paducah Tilghman in the first week rather handily as the halftime score was 41-0 in favor of the Blue Tornado. This past week saw the Cardinals take on PT, and the halftime score was 14-0, again in favor of the Blue Tornado. Can any conclusions be drawn from that for this game? Tell us what you think.

Shocker ... calpreps.com has McCracken County favored to win this game! Projected score McCracken County 35 Mayfield 31   I'll believe it when I see it. I say the Cardinals win 35-21

Mayfield by a lot, didn’t even realize McCracken lost to Apollo. I remember a decade ago this team was cranked up to be a powerhouse in WKY, they must’ve not got the memo.

13-7 Mayfield. Mayfield should be up 28 -7. But they keep shooting themselves in the foot.

I thought McCracken would have a chance against Mayfield but losing the Apollo game like they did changes my mind. Mayfield got beat by Tilghman but it was a funny game score was lopsided but closer than I would have thought.

Mayfield names the score.

Mayfield doesn’t lose two in a row.

McCracken  34

Mayfield 20

PT played their worst game of season so far against Mayfield and still won by that much. PT’s offense left about 4-5 TD’s on the field due to missed throws, could have been much worst.  McCracken lost to Apollo yes, but it was a very sloppy game with some key mistakes in special teams that was the difference in that game.  Mccracken beat themselves, not the other way around.

Both clubs are young and figuring things out still, so you just never know.  Won’t be shocked either way.  Lot of talented boys on both sidelines that are close friends, should be fun one to watch.

I think Mayfield figures some things out on the offensive side of the ball. I'm not ready to predict a score but my guess is Mayfield will win by a couple scores at least.

I hope my Cards will continue to show improvement and win this one. I suspect a 24-7 or 24-14 score range.  Mayfield's D is pretty good, but their offense is still a work in progress. On the other hand, I wouldn't be shocked if McCracken wins but at this point that would feel like a slight upset to me.

Apollo forced 5 turnovers and had nearly 400 yards of total offense. It was way more than special teams that won that game.

Never said it was only special teams that cost McCracken that game, but it wasn’t because Apollo out played them.   You can’t hardly win games where you give up two scores from special teams… those two scores alone allowed Apollo to win that game. Without them, Apollo loses by 9.
Apollo didn’t force 5 turnovers, they forced 2 and 3 of the other ones McCracken gave to them by receivers not executing their assignment.
Apollo had 4 turnovers also in this matchup.
Yeah Apollo had nearly 400 yards of offense… but so did McCracken.  Offensive output was almost identical.

Again…The only real difference in this game was the mistakes on special teams. It was the deciding factor.

But this thread isn’t about McCracken and Apollo and my point was to not let this game dictate how you view McCracken as a team against Mayfield based on the Apollo game alone.
