Trinity Shamrocks (1-0, 6A #1) | Frederick Douglass Broncos  (1-0, 6A #3)

Louisville's granite reinforced tradition vs. Lexington's new school wrecking ball

Between last year's hotly contested split series and the anticipation for this week, it feels like we're witnessing the birth of the next big rivalry in Kentucky, one that will largely shape and define the immediate future of 'big school' football.

Trinity is still the standard, but Douglass has matured beyond the hype machine label they were branded with early on.

There was a time, not long ago, that suggesting a Fayette County Public School could even make the Shamrocks break a sweat would be met with confusion and laughter.

The Broncos actually took it a step further last year and drew blood. The institution that is Trinity football responded with the heart of a champion, flooring Douglass in the rematch on their way to #28.

Make no mistake, Trinity is the king. But the brash young Broncos are at the castle gate, and they didn't come to bend the knee.... they've come to usurp the crown.

Just don't expect the Rocks to comply.

I came in here to spit out a prediction and saw an opportunity for some logos and a little on-brand melodrama. ?

I have a tendency to view this sport through a dramatic lens.

That's merely one of the many angles that makes this game a "must see" event without getting into the nuts and bolts.

Anywho, I'll take the usurpers in another rugged street fight. I look for Douglass to pull it out in the end with a pair of brass knuckles.

If they see each other again in November, maybe it'll be "T-time".

I was looking at Calpreps ratings and saw that Frederick Douglass is 1 point higher than Springfield (OH) who Trinity scrimmaged and beat. It's also fresh in my memory that St. X beat Frederick Douglass in a scrimmage so I just think the Shamrocks defense will be the difference. I do think it's possible Frederick Douglass wins but I think Trinity gets the win.

Trinity's defense looks legit early, but my concern is on the offensive side of the ball. Obviously Zane Johnson got it done last year winning the title, but there were some obvious kinks to be worked out after the Station game last week.

I’m going with Trinity in what will likely be a close and low scoring game. Good luck to both teams.

T's passing game is a little out of synch.   To me it was evident in their Green-White scrimmage, the scrimmage against Springfield and the game against Bryan Station.  I think this is the biggest problem on offense.   They run the ball OK, and this will improve as soph JB Berry gets more carries. The QB is running a bit more this year too, it seems.   Rushing and passing yardage vs. Bryan Station was well balanced but there were too many incompletions (passing was 11-21 as I recall) to call it an effective passing attack at this time.   On the brighter side, I definitely feel the passing will improve as the players get used to one another.

Will Douglass accept cash at the gate? $5.00 admission fee? I am aware of GoFan but prefer not to rely on electronics.

Thanks!!!

Man, I would love to go to this game.

It's the biggest game in the state.

Good luck to both teams!
