It's not only sad, but on some levels, dangerous. We need the local media as a credible watch dog in our community. As I shared on the podcast, Bob Hendrickson in the Maysville Ledger-Independent brought to light the mismanagement of funds in the Mason County School District. Without him and the credibility he had in the community, I am not sure about the outcome.

On the fun side of this discussion, Bill Vaught, Larry Vaught, & the Saturday night KY Advocate were the "Sports Illustrated" for guys that played HS football in our area. A bunch of us were really not that good (starting with me ??) but good grief they sure made us look good. We thought we were the stuff back in 1982. Lol

Bill, Larry, Marty Warren and the rest of their staff... those guys could really put it off... they made the magic of Friday nights come alive in black & white. Pretty incredible stuff... and as you said... doesn't exist anymore.

All true and Larry's comment about treating the "minor" sports as important was also true.  I played high school golf and it was great to see my name in the paper from time to time, even though I wasn't that good.  But the Advocate would still write a few paragraphs about the golf match (even more for regionals) and made those seem like big time events.

Reminded me of this story. Always enjoyed when he officiated our games!
