Final. A tough loss for the Tomcats in the first round of the tournament. Lyon Co. was led by Brad Shoulders with 3 FT's with just over :3 seconds for the win. He led Lyon with 17 points and Travis Perry had 16. Lyon will move on to play the winner of Adair Co./Marshall Co. winner. Tough loss for the Tomcats blowing a 7 point lead 4 minutes to play.

 

Brady Shoulders led all scorers with 17 points.  Travis Perry scored 16.

Braxton Jennings led Ashland with 12 & Asher Adkins chipped in with 11.

The Tomcats season ends at 23-11 and Lyon Co. improves to 33-3.

Radio made it sound like Lyon was sleepwalking in the second half until the 8-0 run.  

Not sure I understand Ashland's strategy in the final minutes.  Not holding the ball.  Allowing Lyon to hold the ball.  Calling your last timeout with a free throw still remaining.  Head-scratcher to me.

Ashland led 41-34 with 5:54 to play and were outscored 11-2 from then on Ashland had 4 turnovers and were 1-5 from the floor the rest of the way. Also Carter came into the game averaging just under 23 points a game and only had 9 today. Perry for Lyon Co. came in averaging just under 30 points a game was held to just 16 points. The Lyons survived and advanced.

I also could not understand letting Lyon hold the ball the last minute they had only 1 team foul at the time so they could have got aggressive and fouled 3 times before they would have had been in the penalty. It looked like the last 5 minutes of the game Ashland was playing not to lose instead of to win. It is sad for the 16th region as I think their next game would have been very winnable and it is not often that both the 15th and 16th region wins games in the Sweet 16.

Shout out to the refs in this game.  They let them play but weren't afraid to call a foul on Lyon Co.'s last shot (the shooter got hammered).  Not a fan of whistle-swallowing on last shots.  

Frieze missed a gimmie point blank shot late in the game from a nice pass for Ashland and I think the score was tied or a 1 point game. Players are going to miss makable shots, it’s just part of the game.  But the timing on that one with not much time left in the game magnified it. 
By the way, two teams won’t be much farther apart in location in Kentucky that these two….345 miles!

You gotta be kidding me!!! I turned it off once Ashland got up 7. As was said it sounded like Lyon Co could just not buy a basket and we’re starting to “press” a bit more with each missed shot. I even said you never know what could happen and still turned it off. Great comeback for Lyon Co and great season for Ashland.

Very unimpressed with Lyon County. Walking around with zero sense of urgency .... until they didn't. Definitely played Moneyball when they had to. 

Ashland played well ... and it looked like they were interested in winning. I was on the fence as to who I wanted to win at the beginning ...Ashland quickly answered that question for me. I am not sure if it is just me (and I admit it could be) but I didn't care for the arrogance or entitled behavior from Lyon County. I've been going to the Sweet 16 since 1985 .... I walked away feeling like I did in 1986 when Clay County got beat way early ... meaning I felt like they lost due to attitude. Luckily they fixed that by 1987!)

Tremendous defensive effort by Ashland this season, but they've been especially airtight lately. They faced the #3 and #1 scoring offenses in the state in their last two games, bolding both to season lows in points, and nearly slashed Lyon County's average in half today.

The Tomcats lose two key pieces of this year's team, but more than enough returns to make a seventh straight trip to Rupp very attainable next season.

Granted I watched the game on NFHS so unable to see the attitude issues you did.  Can you be more specific about what you saw.
