People do not frequently like rooting for the team that stays on top all the time. And a large portion of the population really felt it this year with the impression Mahomes and Kelce were being shoved down their throats (especially with the Swift stuff). I do not feel people in general will be rooting for the Chiefs for a while. It’s just time for a change. It’s like it was with Golden State in the NBA. You just get tired of it. 

I get way more tired of the State Farms ads than all the Swift stuff combined.

As I understand it, one quarter isn't then end of overtime anymore than the end of the first quarter of the game is.

I loved the playoff overtime rule. Totally takes the randomness of the coin flip out of the equation.

A pretty evenly matched-up game between the Chiefs/49ers gave us a classic Super Bowl.... down the stretch, at least. Both sides can point to major miscues or injuries they can cite as why they lost, but I believe those things evened out in the end. Amazingly, KC has found a way to do this in consecutive years with so little offensive punch. Kelce could muster up a half of football in the playoffs, but the guy was closer to a middle-of-the-pack TE most of the year. Rice came on as a viable WR, but he was still a rookie and would be a #2 on most teams. Then you have a bunch of JAGs at WR. Pacheco is fun. But this is about Mahomes. The KC defense did what it did all season. Bent, but didn't break with Chris Jones being the ultimate disrupter. Swift wins again.

This is not a statement about liking or disliking the Chiefs. They are easily dislikable. But the amount of off-the-field distractions around Andy Reid (children), Mahomes (being the guy + his family), and Kelce (Swift), and for them to deliver is nothing short of amazing. We see these things bring down teams all the time.

This is a major deviation between the Patriots. Their dislike was mainly football-related.

Obviously, this is too new to have any meaningful data.  In college, the prevailing strategy is the take the ball second.  Recently, coaches have been questioning that. I've seen data that said the team taking the ball first wins 55% of the time.  That said, I still defer  ?.

 

Thought it was interesting the SF players were not aware of the OT rules but the KC players said it is something they've been prepared for all season.

If you take the ball second, you have more control over the outcome of the game and more opportunity to win.

1. You will know for sure what you need to do to win on your first possession - 3 points, 7 points or 8 points if you want go for 2.

2. If need a TD, you know you have to go for it on 4th down. An extra down on each series if needed.

3. If you want to go for the win, go for 2. You get to decide your best option to win.

4. You put pressure on the opposing team to guess on whether to go for it on 4th, kick the field, try the long field goal, go for 2 after a TD, etc.

Also, in last night's game, make sure Mahomes doesn't have the ball last.

On #2, that would also apply if SF had scored just a FG. Which they had.

Not sure what their confusion was about unless they thought they played an entire quarter. It was common knowledge the OT rules changed for playoff games following the Bill/Chiefs AFC title game a few years ago to at least give each team a possession.

I've watched MANY a Superbowl and I came to a conclusion last Sunday evening.  It's really not about football any longer in my opinion.  It's just a giant infomercial about a bunch of stuff and causes where some football breaks in for a few minutes.  I got frustrated with it and turned it off.
