Great write up as usual @Purple88. BG is on a mission and has been all business since the playoffs started. Looking at the schedules is enough for me.  If BG plays well they will win. I

Based on the lack of Jag support last week in the prediction thread, guess whose going to be caring that torch this week for them: Just hope no one tries putting my torch out. Frank lo

Seems like Cooper would leave for game before the noted 3pm Community Sendoff on Saturday. Seems like a late sendoff to me.

Good luck to both teams. Should be a great game.

Its 1.5 hour drive. Stopping for dinner is an hour. Give 30 minutes to load/unload. That puts them at UK at 6 pm at the absolute latest. I don't think they can take the field until after 7 pm.

I was thinking the same thing, it is a pretty standard trip to take for a high school football team and I would not break my routine.

Spot on!  The 2012 experience was not the best for Cooper having to sit in a WKU campus rec center for what seemed like nearly 2 hours before having to walk over to the stadium, rushed into a locker room to hurry up and change to get on to the field.  Being at UK is a huge plus and the timing will be better planned.

Good luck to the Jags as well as CCH tomorrow!

Are you reading my mind Frank?  I have been putting these off (other than Boyle and CAL) and yes today is the day I am picking the rest of these...

Routine is so important in HS sports. Kids do better when things are the same. Similar to playoffs at Scott County.

I Look for this to be an exciting game, but I must root for 9th region in this one! Go Jags!

I feel like stuff like this is jinxy. If it was my team I wouldn’t like it. Cooper needs to just keep on keeping on.

All energy towards feeling like the job is already done is verses you getting it done.

I don't disagree with you but if Graeter's Ice Cream wants to support Kentucky High School Football, I am all about it!

I think this game will be decided by a few things.

1. Can BG protect the pocket and block well enough to have some drive sustaining runs?

2. Can Cooper get the ball to their star players?

3. Can either team get some defensive stops early on?

4. Who wins the turnover battle?

5. Whose star players make championship level plays early on?

6. Will Cooper choose to play aggressive on the screens that BG loves to throw, or defend the deep threat?

I expect a good and exciting game, with that said and me being bias, I’ll take BG 38 Cooper 28.

On the eve of the big game, thought I'd give my keys to the game:

Purple88 Keys to the Game:

With a forecast that has gametime kickoff at 53 degrees and 3 mph wind, both teams can just play and won’t have to worry about the elements of mother nature very much.  Thank you Mother Nature!!!

It goes without saying that turnovers will be critical in any state championship game and this one is no different.  Also, kicking games for each team will be very important.  I don’t know anything about the Cooper kickers, but know Braden Widener has been very effective for the Purples kicking the ball this year.

Keys for Cooper:

1.       Your best players need to touch the ball.  BG knows this and will try to defend them, but can they?  Cam O’hara did a good job running with the ball when WRs weren’t open in the Highlands game.  He will likely need to do the same here.  He’s capable.

2.       Keagan Maher at RB needs to have a good game for Cooper.  In the two games Cooper lost this season, Maher had less than 40 yards rushing in each of those games.  He is a crafty runner and BG will have to account for his elusiveness.

3.       Get pressure on BG QB Deuce Bailey.  Many have tried, few have succeeded.  St X did the best job of pressuring Bailey this year and the Purples fell in that game.  Duplicate the Xavarian’s effort and it will go along way in the Jaguars’ success on Saturday night.  They have the State’s Top Sack Man.  Will be interesting.

4.       Settle down early.  At the beginning of big games like this (State Championship) you can be pretty amped up as a young teenager.  Cooper needs to settle into the game early in order to battle a Bowling Green team that was here last year.

Keys for Bowling Green:

1.       Get Deuce Bailey comfortable early.  Get some easy passes and/or runs to break the ice.  Once that happens things typically fall into place for the Junior signal-caller.  He had a very good first half last season against a great Frederick Douglas defense.  He’ll need a better complete game effort here for the Purples to hoist Championship #8.

2.       Similar to #1 above, make sure your best players touch the ball.  That starts with WR Travey Barber.  The sophomore is just a tremendous option for the Purples.  Cooper knows this and will likely put their top secondary defenders to Barber’s side.  Can he still make plays with this type coverage?  We’ll see.

3.       BG D needs to get home on Cooper QB Cam O’hara.  The Cooper sophomore is very elusive and accurate.  BG needs to finish the job rushing the Jaguar QB.

4.       Make Cooper’s talented offense earn every yard.  No bombs or long Maher runs.

There you have it!  It’s going to be a great game!  What are your keys to the game?
