With all the tradition and history with Danville and Frankfort High it’s becoming harder and harder for these small schools to keep talent from going to the bigger schools in Boyle Co and Franklin County. The turnover of coaches over the years has hurt these school badly. Sad to see but when you have a school where everyone is getting big exposure, a well built program in terms of development in players and funding, and major success in playoff runs it’s hard to see these two schools bouncing back for a while.

This is why Danville's superintendent search is so critical right now.  They've got to find someone who can pool resources for a small district and leverage that back into success.

I'm not sure they've had a more important superintendent search....ever !

Agreed.  The last 4 supers they've had since Bob Rowland are from big city districts (one out of state).  That formula hasn't worked.  Small systems require a whole different set of skills.  Basically doing more with less.  That's especially true as Danville's enrollment has shrunk over the years.

Titletown no more??

Ron Ballard… Danville raised and a Danville grad. Has been in the district in multiple positions for a couple of decades now including principal at Toliver. Time to hire from within. Hire someone who genuinely cares about the district and its success and not just the paycheck on the way to their next stop.

Bob Rowland was great for Danville football. We talked about that on our podcast this week.

Didn’t Danville just win a championship in 2017.  I’m sure a lot of teams would just like to have one ever. This happens in public schools that are doing it the right way. Nobody has just incredible football players home grown every year.

Ron Ballard was part of the Coach Clevenger dismissal. Danville don't need to go in that direction!

How sure are you about that?

Yes, Danville won that title six years ago and it feels like a century ago with all of the chaos that has happened since.  The coach that won that title is now at a rival (Somerset) and the community wasn't happy with his dismissal, which was triggered in part by publicly expressing frustration over cuts to the program by administration.  The record went down post-2017 because the talent needed to be reloaded and LCA/Somerset went on a tear as some of the best programs in 2A in the years that followed and the Ads were trapped in the old playoff system and couldn't get out of the first round.  When the old coach was fired new talent was in the pipeline and if that talent was in Danville, the Ads would be a contender in 2A.  Then, when the old coach could've been hired back two years after their dismissal they weren't even reporedly considered for their old job despite having lots of community support and a state title (and a state runner-up) on their resume.  So there was an exodus to the county and elsewhere and that's made the Rebels, who were already a great program, amazing.  It's always easier to destroy than to build so for Danville to get back on track is going to require some heavy lifting as someone who recognizes the value of football to the community has to come in and make it a priority again.

It was a great listen!  Agreed 100% with the discussion that you and Chuck had on the subject of the importance of athletics and academics (and its value in a school).  Keep up the good work!
