An early "Game of the Year" candidate is on deck next week, as Fredrick Douglass (0-1) travels to St. Matthews to take on Trinity (1-0).

Douglass is coming off a humbling 45-6 defeat to Archbishop Hoban (OH), while Trinity avenged their playoff loss from last season against Bryan Station, topping the Defenders 36-3.

Will the highly-touted Douglass offense find its way, or will the Trinity defense shut down a Lexington offense two weeks in a row?

Should be a great game between two great programs.

Great question, but I don't think people are giving up on them, but just that they're playing a different ballgame now stepping up to 6A.  They're a very talented team, but Trinity is at home.  Freder

  • It’s a different level of execution and discipline when you have to play powerhouse after powerhouse and there’s no easy game in between.   FD will grow a lot this year.

Desensi did play last week on special teams and wide receiver. Zane did play also.

Assuming they get their starting QB back, how does Douglass' offense measure up to Bryan Stations? Trinity dominated BS up front, similar to how Hoban handled FD.

I'll ride with the Shamrock defense and take Trinity for the win. Frederick Douglass traveling back-to-back weeks doesn't help them either. Trinity at home back-to-back weeks.

What is the story on the starting QB? Really thought they’d talk about it during the broadcast but I didn’t hear a mention of it

I personally don’t even view Carpenter as much of an upgrade over Strautman. I get the inexperience part but I think by the end of the season Strautman is the guy for Douglass.

I know Hoban is loaded, but FD played like this was their first ever varsity game. I'll believe everyone that Trinity's D is legit and go with the Rocks.

Calpreps has Frederick Douglass #1 in the state and Trinity #2. Not a game for all the marbles but for a lot of marbles.

Didn’t these two play for the first time three years ago?

T took them to the shed if I’m not mistaking.. 45-7?

If I remember right it was scrimmage and Trinity blew them out.

I learned my lesson last week.  The Rocks at home are more than tough.

Their defense is dismantling.  But Douglass has some highly touted lineman, they will need to show that on Friday in order to keep it closer than the Bryan Station score.

I think the Trinity offense can improve from last week also, but know they don't want to show everything in Week 1 and 2 either.

It was scrimmage in 2019 when Trinity went on to win the 6A title fairly easily.

The game is moved back to 8pm start time for now and the Athletic Department will be monitoring all week. The Freshman game is also moved to 10am from 11. Will try to update more as I hear it.
