Tryston Ford named Danville Head Coach

Featured Replies

Congratulations to Coach Tryston Ford on being named the new head coach at Danville.

Coach Ford has been an assistant under Danville Coach Judie Mason and I believe he coached under Ed McKinney a year or two as well.

Coach Ford is a 2012 graduate of Danville and a 2016 graduate of Kentucky State University where he was also a member of the basketball team.

Coach Ford has been a member of the Danville community his entire life and is an Admiral through and through.  I feel like Danville hit a home run with this hire.  I couldn’t be happier for him and his family.

Good luck, Coach Ford!!!

This sounds like a great hire for Danville and they needed one, congrats Coach Ford!

Good selection for this job.  I hope the people in the community are patient and let him build the program that he wants.

Big facts!!

Danville's news release says that he is the interim coach, which an odd way to go about this because Joe Mathis says that the "interim" label was not discussed at the press conference.

Great hire for Danville,  have know Tryson for a while now after working with is Dad for about 20 years.  I think Coach Ford will do a great job at Danville.

Agreed. This is the first I have heard of the interim label.

Been out of the loop on this one. Did Ed resign or was he forced out?

He resigned.  Basically his whole returning key guys transferred.

Retired would probably be better word.

Yes, when Demauriah Brown left for Boyle County all the others followed. Brown left for football reasons only him and Josh Bixler. I'm sure Owen Barnes decided to transfer knowing Danville wouldn't be very good without those 2 players. It will be total rebuild mode for Danville the next couple of years. They lost 98% of there scoring to graduation or transfer. I don't blame Coach Ed McKinney for resigning this late in his coaching career.

I don't know why Ford is the interim.  Is Danville still looking for a permanent coach?  Giving him a tryout with the job?  Puzzled at the whole thing.

Agreed.  They rolled him out as if he was permanent. ??‍♂️

Right? I've never known there to be an introductory press conference for an interim coach. And why wouldn't you hire him full time? He's been an assistant coach at the school for years; he isn't some unknown. Perhaps interim was just a typo?

Danville will probably screw this up like everything else they’ve done admin wise the last few years then blame it on all the surrounding schools that they’re taking their kids blah blah blah. Labeling a hire that it seems everyone is excited about and saying they finally got right as an “interim” doesn’t make a lot of sense.
