I'll bring this up again. Does anyone see a problem with moving the lower level student tickets (not eRupption zone) behind the other basket? It spreads the student body out more and to be honest the people who normally sit behind the basket are getting a better view.

I wouldn't have a problem with that. However I think those were the schools intentions when the erruption zone was created. However at the time I believe there was some stupid SEC rule about students not being allowed to be behind or adjacent to the opposing teams bench. I think the rule has been abolished since then so it may be a possiblility now.

I'm in my third year at UK and to this point I have not missed a home basketball game. Not over Christmas break, not when we're playing NW Montana State, and not when my seats are up in the stratosphere. Student tickets aren't free. They are $5 per game so that means since my freshman year I've spent over $350 on football and basketball tickets combined. And by the time I'm done at UK it could be over $500. That is a lot of money to come out of a college students' pocket. I think the atmosphere at Rupp stinks in comparison to some of the other venues in college basketball.

 

I understand that the old people on the sidelines pay more money than I do for the seats, but they only get loud once or twice a game and they don't even wear school colors to the game (for the IU game this year there were FREE blue and white t-shirts in their seats, and they still didn't wear them). I don't know what the solution is for Rupp, but if the athletic department is truly committed to keeping UK as one of the elites something should be done.

The loudest the student sections get is when the camera is on them. For the most part I don't see much difference in them and the old fogies they're putting down on here. I sit up behind the eruption zone and beside the other student section and the only difference I see and hear is the students stand for most of the game.

The crowd noise, the atmosphere etc... That is what makes college sports great. I think the way UK does it is wrong and dumb from the aspect of a former College athlete. I know that the people who seat around the lower parts are the big $$$ crowd. If they really cared about the program or how well the team did; they wouldn’t have a problem with this being done. If they really cared they would take a higher seat in Rupp to be more successful. (Or I would anyway)

Most could care less it is a “Social Event” for them. Oh I have the $$ to buy UK tickets. Then they sit on their BUTTS wearing their suits the whole game. Only time getting up to meet another Suit wearing $$ donor or if they are getting food, or taking a bathroom break.

Granted not all of those donors are these way but alot of them are.

Alot of people talk about not changing because of the history of Rupp; well that doesn't matter to prospects these days trust me.

 

Sorry about the book I have wrote here but this topic is very touchy with me. I have had encounters with these fans on numerous occasions. They told me to sit down during big parts of games. I along with the people I was there with were completely stunned and made it a point to stand the entire game.

But Im sure you will have a couple of people on here that I have been dealing with that are hard headed and dont want to admit that Rupp is just not that fun of an environment these days for the kids of todays generation. Tradition use to be something that can get a kid to go to school here just on tradition alone. But now all tradition does is get them to make us one of their top choices and then in the end go to the place with the better enviroment that would be more fun to play at...

Rupp is way to big to be a quiet and dead as it has seemed to be in recent years.

If I was a top prospect I wouldn't be basing my college choice on the arena they play in or how many students they have on the floor to begin with. All of the top programs have very nice facilities and that's all that really matters. My choice would be based mainly on the coaches and the school's campus, along with what things there would be to do when not playing or practicing. The fans and crowd don't have nearly the effect on basketball as some of you all think.

I will give you that maybe it dont has as much of an effect as we think, but I think it also has more of an effect on it than you think it does though as well...

I was reffering to them not having much effect on the outcome of a game, that comment was mainly meant for the people who believe the noise level changes the outcome of the game. Not the perception of the program. Kentucky fans have always hurt the general perception of the program. But mainly because of the "Win a championship or don't even play the season." mentality that most of them have. As far as perception, UK's key to getting the top recruits is getting them here for midnight madness, IMO.

They've tried before, they have the same problems UK has as far as getting it done. Sampson might have enough influence to make it happen, but I doubt it. It's obviously killing their recruiting efforts, however. :lol:

These guys are really clowning on Assembly Hall. IU's situation is much, much worse than UK's has ever been from what I can see. They just need to work on getting the students in one section, they're scattered around everywhere.
