January 15, 200719 yr Didn't know Mash was already up there, but I agree Shepperd, Delk, and Turner all deserve to be there. Don't know about Prince he didn't make a final four. Their are several players retired jerseys that did not make the Final Four.
January 15, 200719 yr The rafters should only be for the all-time greats. Sheppard shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath with UK's alltime greats even though he was my favorite while in school. Prince, I am not sure of, but can see the argument. Hayes, I am not sure of, but can see the argument. Delk, again not sure of, but can see the argument. The rafters should be only for the elite of elite. Out of the 3 mentioned Delk would be the first to get my vote. BTW, anyone got a listing of who is up there in the rafters? And for the record I believe the next UK player to get their jersey retired will be Carly Omvrod. I'm with you. I can see a case being made for each. But let's compare some career stats and accomplishments to those already in the rafters.
January 15, 200719 yr In all honesty, I do not see anyone worthy of a jersey being hung in Rupp. When trying to decide who belongs, you put people up there that 1) Were outstanding (first team All-American) or 2) Had a dramatic impact on the program (the unforgetables). 1) Delk and Mercer would be the only two off the top of my head that were first team All-American, and I am not sure either of them belong... maybe Delk. 2) People say Hayes, but he was just a fan favorite; in all honesty, not worthy of the jersey hang.

How could you not put Delk up there? He played on a National Champion and 2 Final Four teams. As an individual he led UK in scoring for 3 consecutive seasons, was 2nd team All-SEC as a soph, 1st team All-SEC in both his junior and senior seasons, 1st Team All-American in 96, he was All-NCAA Regional in 96, and the Most Outstanding Player of the 96 Final Four (in which he set a record for 3pointers made in a championship game). He also finished his career as the number 4 leading scorer all time at UK and currently ranks 5th. What more than that does he need to do, turn water into wine? Quotes like that are why UK fans get a bad name in regard to their expectations for the program.

January 15, 200719 yr If Randolph Morris comes back next year and has another year like he's having this year and his # could be hung in the rafters one day...I agree with Delk being up there...Prince-no...I'd put Bogans, Hayes, Padgett and Turner all up there before Prince, and I don't think any of those deserve it either...He's contributing more on the NBA level than he did at UK...
