January 15, 200719 yr What are the stats for Sean Woods who has his jersey retired ?? 91 Games Played 302-645 on field goals for 46.8 %, 18-62 on 3pt field goals for 29%,172-263 on free throws for 65.4%, 482 assists (5th all time) for 5.3 per game (1st all time), 144 steals 1.6 per game, 7 blocked shots, 250 turnovers. 794 points for an average of 8.7 per game over 3 seasons. I think his jersey is retired more due to the fact that he was a senior on that 91-92 team than his overall numbers.

As an individual he led UK in scoring for 3 consecutive seasons, was 2nd team All-SEC as a soph, 1st team All-SEC in both his junior and senior seasons, 1st Team All-American in 96, he was All-NCAA Regional in 96, and the Most Outstanding Player of the 96 Final Four (in which he set a record for 3pointers made in a championship game). He also finished his career as the number 4 leading scorer all time at UK and currently ranks 5th. What more than that does he need to do, turn water into wine? Quotes like that are why UK fans get a bad name in regard to their expectations for the program. :lol: I see you have done a lot of research on Delk. May I also suggest researching my posts as to see what my expectations are for UK and how I view the program. It is completley opposite of what I interperted in your post. Of everything you posted, the only thing that holds any water with me is the 1st Team All-American and Final Four MVP (which I did not mention)... I will admit, when it comes to any kind of hall of fame voting or retiring of a jersey, I am always very critical and love to scrutinize. I think the baseball hall of fame stuff is a complete joke, btw, but that is for another thread. In my book, such an honor is reserved for the best of the best of the best. And as I aluded to, Delk is the closest person in recent UK history to be worthy of such an honor.

As I said, I am sometimes overly critical and scrutinize HOF voting more than most. The whole baseball milestone voting (eg. 500 HRs, 3000 hits, which is a joke) has me scared for life on any kind of voting. :lol:

January 17, 200719 yr The rafters should only be for the all-time greats. Sheppard shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath with UK's alltime greats even though he was my favorite while in school. Prince, I am not sure of, but can see the argument. Hayes, I am not sure of, but can see the argument. Delk, again not sure of, but can see the argument. The rafters should be only for the elite of elite. Out of the 3 mentioned Delk would be the first to get my vote. BTW, anyone got a listing of who is up there in the rafters? And for the record I believe the next UK player to get their jersey retired will be Carly Omvrod. This is a bold statement but I believe Delk is the best all-around guard to ever wear the blue and white. Best shooter, ball handler and defender in one package ever to play there.

I agree they deserve to be up there, but if we went by effort and representing UK well we would have to build a new gym because the rafters would have hundreds of jerseys. Josh Carrier gave 100% and represented UK well, should he be in the rafters? Players should be judged by their stats, individual and team accomplishments and awards, and their impact on the program, not by their "effort". I personally think Wayne Turner is deserving as well, seeing as he is the winningest player in College Basketball history... GO CATS!!!
