Holmes won the region this year - but they were wearing Newport uniforms.?

  • The funny thing about these two names, I’ve been told that both of them want one of the two to get the job, but was never confirmed that either of them want it themselves lol!

Where is Schrand now and/or what was his last job?

His last year at Holy Cross was 2017-2018.  I am not sure where he went after that.

That would be interesting.

I think he may have a step-son in the program, or coming up through the program, and most will remember he coached his two boys when they were at Holy Cross.

I have a hard time seeing him there for a long period, but as a short-term fix, Beechwood could certainly do worse.  He definitely knows the game.

He is definitely known for only coaching when it involves one of his boys and then bouncing.

Any alumni names linked to this job? I am assuming Hart is in the mix, also heard of an alumni applicant coaching in Ohio?

Contrary to what I originally was told, Schrand did not apply.

1) Ross Hart

2) Cincinnati guy

3) Still trying to get a name on the second and third.

Hearing Noska, recently of St X in Cincinnati has applied.  He may be Cincy guy.

Wondering if Ricardo Johnson would be a candidate? Certainly has good experience playing at Ohio U., being an assistant at Xavier and another school that escapes me right now! Not to mention he has a burning desire to develop players which I saw personally though his time as an AAU coach too. Certainly would be there for at least 10 years or more!!

I honestly think Ricardo needs to be an assistant high school coach for at least a year before being considered for a head coaching job at the high school level.  He was a Grad Assistant at X and was primarily a practice player.  No role in actual coaching.  He then spent one year at UT-Martin as an DOBO so no on the floor coaching was allowed.  It also hurts that he doesn't teach.  I think that he could be a good option for schools but has to get in and do work at the high school level to prove it.

It's amazing to me how quickly you are to, what appears to be, minimize Ricardo's role and efforts at his previous stops. While it may be true he may not have actual "game management" experience, being on a college staff, regardless of role, is experience.  You cannot disregard being in the room, in meetings, helping to develop college players and simply being on the bench in college as vital to his growth as a coach.  Maybe he does, in fact, need to be a HS assistant, maybe he doesn't, but don't minimize, and frankly insult, the man's efforts to becoming a head coach because what you can't measure is heart, desire and passion in his pursuit his dreams.

Regardless of who gets this job it will be STEEP uphill climb getting out of the 9th region as the upper echelon is extremely loaded and continuing to get better with transfers.

I took it as providing facts, just as you did with saying he was in meetings, etc. While that is in fact experience to be in meetings, etc., it is also equally true that he's not had to manage the stresses of a high school coach (parents, admin, etc.) and that it could make some hesitant to be the first to take that chance.

I think Ricardo needs to be a high school assistant first, I made that argument to many when the Holmes job was open too. I certainly don't discredit the experience he has though.

I worked in Covington during Ricardo's days there. I don't doubt his desire and passion to coach a bit. He's starting to get a bit of a reputation in NKY coaching circles that he doesn't want to work his way up anywhere either, which doesn't bode well for landing a job. I've heard that from an AD and NKY coach personally.
