  • Hats off to McCracken for ytd record but I think it would be fair to say they have by far, played the easiest schedule of any top 15 team.

How about Grant County? Currently sitting at 15-1.  Strength of schedule may be keeping them out. Big match up on 1/14. Grant Co(2) at Collins(1). Top two teams in the 8th region KHSAA ranki

Looking forward hearing how this game plays out. Hope you'll help with updates. I'd like to see this happen if they do. It'll be great to see Grant see the spotlight this season. SoS will pick

We're back from the break, and there's been a lot of rearranging thanks to the holiday tournaments! We have a new #1 as Covington Catholic ascends to the top spot, dropping Warren Central by a spot after their loss to Madison Central.  Lexington Catholic and North Oldham ride the momentum from their performance in the WGM Classic to climb to the top 5.  McCracken County makes their poll debut as the final undefeated team, and Collins takes a big jump as winners of the Ashland Invitational, and with their sole loss coming to Ballard.

Who is too high? Who is too low? Who should be in, who should be out?

I’d put McCracken in the top 6. I’d put Lyon there as well. Mustangs won two close games recently without one of their best players.

Definitely a strength of schedule issue.  If they keep this up I expect them in sooner rather than later.

Who would you remove from the top 6 to add Lyon and McCracken County?

I’d put them higher than North or Clark. McCracken could get a loss at Marshall tomorrow night in Draffenville without Hart in the lineup.

There's no doubt that strength of schedule plays a huge factor in how the teams are rated.  In my mind, a win over a quality opponent always trumps a loss or lack thereof, especially if the loss(es) also came to top competition.  I think rankings are ultimately a mix of resume and just who would you expect to win if the two teams played each other, at least at full strength.

Covington Catholic will never survive the length of Warren Central.

They defeated a top-30 team in Florida according to MaxPreps. Also, I do not see how they miss out and Simon Kenton makes it.

Simon Kenton’s best win is against current #4 North Oldham.  Who would Grant County’s best win be against?

Probably Lex Christian. Simon Kenton’s win over north slight asterisks since Dallas didn’t play. Pretty comparable resumes overall.  One watch out couple be Simon Kenton can struggle to score at times.

I'd like to see this happen if they do. It'll be great to see Grant see the spotlight this season. SoS will pick up in the back half of the schedule - Collins, Conner, Simon Kenton, North Oldham, Great Crossing, and Mason County.

Miami Southridge, the team that Grant County beat by 15, also lost to Corbin by 8 in the same "Smokey Mountain" tourney.

I know comparing scores is a fool's errand, but the Redhounds are ranked 5th in the 13th Region in the latest "Roundup" on BGP. Does anyone think Corbin belongs in the Top 40 in Kentucky right now?

Downside to MaxPreps rankings is that it's all user driven - there is no mandatory score reporting. Of the 2,200+ schools in Florida there are hundreds of schools that have very little presence on the site, and like everywhere else it skews the rankings.

All that said, Go Braves!

Simon Kenton does have a pretty big out of state win over Elder as well.
