I’m not sure of the exact number off the top of my head but there’s probably 6 to 8 underclassmen that get significant varsity minutes. They are losing their 3 running backs (that includes Ty Bryant that gets most of his minutes at DB) plus the 3 receivers that get the bulk of the touches. The QB is a Junior and they have some really good Junior lineman. There’s only one sophomore that plays significant varsity minutes that I can think of but I might be missing someone. They had 130 players at the beginning of the season so they have a lot of players the never get to dress out on Fridays. They’re definitely losing a lot of experience in key areas.  

Think about this…the number 1 overall seed (FD) had to play:

CovCath round 2

Woodford round 3

Owensboro round 4 

and BG in the finals

 

That is a very tough road.  They also blasted Bryan Station, Boyle and Scott County in the season.

BG did beat a 2-9 Father Ryan team from Nashville. 

I'll take the "upset" in this one and go with Bowling Green.  I only put upset in quotations because it's hard to fathom Bowling Green being an underdog in any football environment.  There is no doubt FD has been the stronger team throughout the season and played some really tough teams in the playoffs.  Bowling Green seems to have picked up wind and appears to be peaking at the right moment.  I wouldn't be at all surprised to see FD win this one running away, but my gut is telling me to pick BG in a tightly contested game.

I like Deuce and think he's gotten better as the season has gone along.  I keep wanting to pick Freddy but the last two weeks has me thinking maybe not.  I guess I'm going FD but I think it's a good one.

BG played a tough schedule no doubt, but to tout that Father Ryan W like some of you have is head scratching.

Understood and don't totally disagree.  I think it's the context of where that game was in the schedule that has the most significance for BG.

BG is ho-hum through that early stretch of games on the schedule.  They didn't look great against North Hardin and beat teams they should have up until Boyle County.  They played well against Boyle, but not good enough.  They go off that home loss to Father Ryan, the game before the district opener vs South Warren.  You certainly don't want to have a 2-game losing streak going into such an important (with significant playoff implications) game as the rivalry one with South.  This is why it was so important for BG to keep the fight and even when you go down 7 with 1:20 left on the clock.  That drive to go down and score and then the creative 2-point conversion to win was HUGE for this team.  They used that to upend South and have been rolling ever since minus a pitfall at St X.  Yes, Father Ryan is 2-9.  I think they are still a good team with some D1 athletes, but their record is their problem.  I know what BG has and like them playing with House Money here.

While Douglass' schedule is tougher, I think the Father Ryan game was a big schedule game.  FR BEAT Cane Ridge #875 nationally and  Brentwood Academy #1694.  Also included in FR's schedule was:  

Montgomery Bell Academy #75

Baylor Chattanooga #164

Nashville McCallie #264

 

In fact they only played 1 team lower than #1532.  I would count that as a huge win.

I agree, if BG doesn’t convert on that final 2pt conversion I’m not sure BG is even in the state final.  It seemed to very much be the catalyst for the team growing up and becoming what they are now.  I also think it helped the defense enormously, seeing as they were picked apart on almost every drive.

Can’t speak on the others, but they were tied with McCallie until the 3rd quarter and proceeded to lose 28-14.  Father Ryan just couldn’t find a way to win, which makes them look pretty awful.

Father Ryan is the second best team BG had played all year to date. Anyone looking down on Father Ryan just doesn’t know anything. Period.

They did not beat Brentwood Academy, they beat Brentwood High School. Two different programs.
