BG fans... What is so different from a few weeks ago vs a top rated defense at St. X, to the upcoming Bronco defense that has several posters expecting the Purples to score the point totals I have been seeing here? 

Knowing BG is a proud and tradition-rich program, I know they had a game plan fully intent on beating the Tigers. However, they didn't get in the end zone once. The RB1 was held to about 35 yards on 7 attempts. Yet vs SW, he got 142 yds with 13 carries. QB1 threw 12 for 28 vs X for 113 yds and ran once for 8 yds. Based off the stats, it appears that BGs offensive starters likely stayed in well through the 4th quarter.

X had a RB gain 120+ yards, and another gain 80+ yards on the ground against the Purples. So I begin to wonder if this "house money" sentiment is really fans throwing out cautious optimism, or just expecting and/or hoping that the Douglass OC is going to make numerous head scratching playcalls?

I would like to think if I am the Broncos DC, I am primarily watching tape of last week's game and the St. X game, and looking for what was different. Missing players? Different offensive strategy? Or maybe SW just didn't have the athletes.

But the X game is too recent of a defensive shutdown on a team that is averaging over 30+ points in the playoffs to have people saying they are beating Douglass by more than a TD.

We all know how good Douglass is on defense. Can anyone give an explanation for why their offensive numbers have went from 52 per game in the regular season to 50 to 33 to 21 to 14 in the playoffs besides simply saying opponents got better each round?

Helps that X’s HC was the HC at BG a few years ago. X players were probably handed a very detailed scouting report to say the least. I haven’t seen X since Wallace took over to know if they run the same offense/defense they did when he was at BG.

Well in the last two games they had runs of over 20 yards for a touchdown called back for a penalty that they did not score on. I think the point is that the Douglass defense has been their calling card all year and you could turn your statement around and ask why did Cov. Cath. who averaged over 29 points a game, Woodford who averaged over 46 points a game and Owensboro who averaged over 42 points a game only score 6, 7, & 2 respectfully. The point being I think if Douglass can score more than 10 points it is going to be hard to beat them unless they turn it over and allow BG to get easy points or points off turnovers. One other thing they held Boyle Co. the week before the playoffs started to only 6 points at home and that was on a trick play late in the first quarter or early in the 2nd quarter.

As I said in my prediction, BG will need to capitalize on mistakes to score as many as predicted.  I think that after watching Owensboro run up the gut and be decently successful that also plays into BG’s hands.  BG QB is very mobile and confident with a strong arm, his receivers will need to catch the ball consistently as well.  
 

BG could very well score 0-7, but they could also score 20-28.  It’s a tough game to predict for me because of last weeks games.  FD made a lot of silly mistakes, but so did Owensboro.

Similar, more running and not nearly as many screens.  I think that’s due to the difference in personnel.  
 

Seeing as Wallace and Spader were two peas in a pod, I’d say Wallace knew exactly how to pick the defense apart.  It also didn’t help with how many dumb mistakes BG made, from the opening kick to dropped passes all over the place.

Bowling Green  21-20.

I think the score of this game may look closer than the game itself. FD DL I think will be able to control the LOS and cause problems for the BG offense.

Not sure I agree with this statement. Owensboro had a grand total of 68 yards rushing for the game and 32 yards of that was on 1 run by Carbon and even with that one long run they averaged just over 2 yards per carry for the game.

Field position. FD has scored 72 TDs (5.5 per game) in 13 games (not including Lafayette’s forfeit) while only averaging 315 yards per game, 150 rushing and 165 passing, due to the D giving them a short field on almost every possession. FD’s average starting offensive possession for the season has to be somewhere around the other team’s 40. Once they started playing teams with higher caliber offenses that could flip field position, their offense has struggled. Their O has basically been run middle, run edge, short pass and score. They had no need/opportunity to throw the ball down the field. I don’t know if FD’s OC just doesn’t have any confidence in Carpenter’s ability to throw down field or hit receivers in motion but they’ve had a somewhat limited offense all season. It’s been obvious the last two games that they’re not going to throw it down field when their rush game has been stifled and put Ty Bryant in and trust he can drive it downfield. TJ Horton has struggled the last couple of games as well. FD will need him to get back on track this Saturday.

I'll be honest. TJ Horton. He has been in a funk since 1st quarter of the Woodford game. He brings the same athleticism to the backfield that Ty does. 

It's something that happened amongst the jawing back and forth that has affected him since. When he is running hard, we can afford to go between he and Davaun, and let Ty focus on D and special teams. He is a D1 talent. If he can snap out of it, that will be huge.

He was visibly upset after the game Friday. He’s an emotional player and he let's it get the best of him sometimes. I don’t see him having three bad games in a row, I think he’ll show up big Saturday.

The entire first half.  They consistently gained 3-5 yards up the gut, and did nothing on the outside.  If you disagree then that’s fine, it’s my observation.
