Cal said two days ago his team wasn’t ready, even before the game last night, that’s a real moral boost for his team??? Excuses always from this coach, why wasn’t his team ready? Offense same ole same ole with high pick and roll, one pass and playground basketball. Out of bounds plays nonexistent and just barely can get the ball inbounded. How much longer can this guy exist?? Experienced players deserve more!! Embarrassing!!

Only to answer your question. The reigning POY and most integral part of their offense hasn't practiced for the last four weeks and sounded like over the weekend, they weren't 100% sure if he was even going to play or not.  Wheeler missed a lot of practice because of injuries.  Collins missed a lot of practice because of his father's death.  And I believe several players and coaches were out of town at the funeral over the week.

One could call those excuses, but they help to answer your question.

No disagreement there. I honestly think Cal didn’t get enough credit for his scheme and things he did offensively and defensively his first 7 or so years here. However, the game has changed since then and he has done a poor job adjusting to it. Especially on the offensive side of things. So it would be nice for sure to see him update how his offense is ran and also as you said be creative on some out of bounds things. If he doesn’t learn to adjust on those areas, then it will be tough for sure.  

It's November 15...College basketball shouldn't even be playing for 2 more weeks.

UK is going to be very good...Izzo is a better bench Coach than Cal. Cal is a better recruiter.

I think UK misses Rubik, or a basketball mind like that.  I feel like his assistants are assistants for their recruiting.  We need a basketball coach on staff.

The biggest issue for Hauser against Gonzaga was he was in foul trouble and even fouled out of the game. He only played 19 minutes in that game, and was 0 for 5 from the field, including 0 for 3 from the field. So he also never really got a chance to get into the flow of the game, because of foul trouble.

It’s called next man up, other players should have gotten plenty of extra minutes in practice and already had minutes in the two previous games. Absolutely no excuses for the play we saw last night. Yes, those are poor excuses.

Just because you don't like the answer to your question, doesn't mean its not a very legitimate answer.  Nobody on this team, or any other backup Center in the country can step in and be the next man up for the current NPOY during four weeks of practice.  

Now, should they have been working on other sets and/or other offenses to get the guards more looks for when Tshiebwe isn't on the floor?  Absolutely.

But if the question is, why wasn't the team ready?  The answer I gave is pretty legitimate, so legitimate that Izzo even said it.

Free throws were their biggest nemesis. Toward the end they were going 1-2 while MSU was going 2-2. 
For some reason Cal’s teams struggle with free throws. 
Also, he sure puts some weird combinations out there sometimes. Looks like he would have some of that figured out in practice by now.

Collins and Toppin have had many more practice sessions beyond 4 weeks, and Oscar only missed the 2nd overtime, most learn how to defend a high pick and roll in 7th and 8th grade.

Most people haven't really had an issue with their defense, except for the big mental lapse by Oscar on the BLOB play.  Defense was pretty decent throughout the game.

The issue was the offense being stagnant, thus all my responses to you.

Just trying to answer your question, unless you really don't want them answered. A big chunk of the team missed time leading into the game. Even Izzo recognized and mentioned it.

The defense gave up 62 points in regulation. If you give up only 62 points, you should win the game. So he is correct offense was the biggest issue. To put it into context, teams that give up 62 points a game usually rank in the top 50 in all of basketball in least points given up per game.

Fredrick and Reeves didn't show up.  That hurt us big-time.  Fredrick and Oscar having defensive brain farts at crucial moments also really hurt.  Free throw shooting was the biggest statistical difference. 

Toppin defended Hauser until he got in foul trouble.  Collins then guarded him and did a terrible job.  Wallace actually guarded him some late and seemed to do okay.

How many points did State give up in regulation?  I guess you could also say they should have won regulation.

Collins did a terrible job on Hauser. But overall the defense wasn't bad.

They make 2 free throws, I stewd of one esch trip, they win in regulation.
