Prolific, Ground Heavy Bears Host Battle Hardened Flyers

Records: Spencer County (10-1) | Franklin County (6-5)

BGP Ranking: Spencer County (#6 in 4A) | Franklin County (#10 in 4A)

Series History: Franklin County leads 3-1 all-time

Table Setter: Spencer County has been hanging big numbers on the competition most of the season. Only big school #4 Bullitt East and unbeaten Bardstown have slowed the Bears down. The backfield trident of Kellen Marksbury, Wade Hutt, and Camden Cardwell have been ripping off chunk plays left and right. Ninety-nine out of a hundred teams would settle for one back averaging ten yards or more per carry. Spencer County is that one in a hundred that has not two, but three.

The Bears are at home and have the superior record and ranking, but are they really the favorite here? A good argument could be made that Franklin County, who's spent the last few years occupying the upper echelon of 4A and features the now healthy tandem of Kaden Moorman and Zach Claudio, make this game a push. In the eyes of some. The Flyers may even be a rare road playoff favorite. Once you move past the aforementioned Chargers and Tigers, Spencer's schedule falls off a bit. Franklin County's ledger boasts Scott County, Corbin, Ballard, Woodford County, and Central. That's five teams that have been top five in their class at some point this year.

Spencer County has the running game to ground the Flyers, but Franklin County has the talent and pedigree to send the Bears into hibernation for the winter.

Fighting Marksbury’s by a score.

Coach Marksbury had done an excellent job but I’m going with the upset. Give me the Flyers by a score.

I think this game is pretty even, but if Spencer does not have the Cardwell kid I am leaning with the Flyers in this one.

Welcome to BGP @5er!

Planning to make a trip up for this one on Friday. I think it should be one of the better matchups of the weekend.

I think Spencer takes this one.  Their run game, even without Cardwell, is still dynamic and explosive.  I don't think Franklin has a great run D.  34-21 in favor of the Bears.

Interesting match up. Kid from Spencer county on their post game show said they should win easy this week! I look for they flyers to make it a game.

It looks like the rain is going to be gone before kickoff but how will field conditions affect this one?

No turf in SC. Just some incredible bermuda.

They should do more than make it a game. It's mostly a gut feeling, but Moorman, Claudio, and Ledford are too good to go quietly. I think they win by two scores tonight.

Maintaining eye discipline and not getting caught sleeping in pass coverage could be key tonight. Spencer County only completes a few passes a game, but they almost all go for big gains because the opposing defense is too preoccupied with what's happening in the backfield, which is understandable given the how the Bears operate in the run game. Don't give up big plays, and I think the Flyers advance.

Franklin up 26-0 late second quarter. This is a mismatch. Size and speed completely to the advantage of Franklin County. Spencer County’s lack of strength of schedule is showing a bit here.
