It's Kentucky.  Where in basketball, you can lose in the post season and still win the state title.   It doesn't have to make sense.

I disagree because of schedule strength. Team like Trinity could be sub .500 because playing out of state powers. I remember them starting 0-5 one year and winning state championship. I like the idea of only top 3 teams in district making it with district champ getting a bye the first round.

Fair point. In that case, you could ignore out of state competition.

I agree with this sentiment but lets take for example a team like NCC who could end up 4-6 with losses to all higher level teams than their class.  It is doubtful they would end up with that record and be district champion but very well could.  Overall Ky. does need to look to revamp its playoff system.  I have always wanted classes in all sports but that will never happen.  

This is hard to do because of small districts.  In 4 class system when there was 7-9 teams per district, you wouldn't  have to worry about many of these situations.

I think KHSAA should eliminate districts...combine districts 1 and 2...3 and 4 and so on...call it a region and take the top 4 teams per region to playoffs.  (This does away with 1 round of playoffs).  Initiate RPI in 3rd round (new semi final round) and be done with it.

I agree with what you are saying. All teams have at least 8 chances to win a game. I cannot come up with a really good reason why someone with a 0 or 1 -2 win season should move into a first round playoff game. By eliminating the 4th team and giving the #1 seed a bye, you will get great 1st round games between 2-3. The #1 seed gets gate for another home game is a positive I guess. Seeing the distance that some of the #4 seeds have to travel and basically have no chance at winning makes no sense whatsoever. But the games are won/lost on the field. So Good Luck to all teams and safe travels to those on the highways!!!

I like the idea but I don't think it works logistically in KY. There would be significant travel in many district/region games if districts were combined.

Here is a proposal. For football let's stop calling it playoffs and call it a post season tournament. The KHSAA wiil invite as many teams as possible to the tournament.
