Aces Hope To Leave Red Devils Feeling Blue

Records: Owensboro (2-1) | O-Cath (1-2)

BGP Ranking: Owensboro (#2 in 5A) | O-Cath (#4 in 2A)

Series History: Owensboro leads 48-15-1 all-time

Table Setter: Week 3 didn't quite go as planned for Owensboro or their Catholic counterparts. Senior High defeated Daviess County, but the performance left much to be desired for coach Jay Fallin, who is still searching for a complete game from his squad. Two weeks ago it was the defense that failed to meet expectations. Last week, it was the offense. Is this the week it all comes together?

The Aces are hoping the answer is no, especially coming off consecutive losses. The most recent was a 33-29 setback to Union County, where O-Cath was unable to fend off a fourth quarter rally by the Braves. The pass defense has gradually regressed each week, pointing toward optimism that Kasey Boone and his talented receiving corp are due to break out. Expect more dazzling footwork from Kenyata Carbon as he continues to gain traction in the Mr. Football conversation. For the Aces, this would be a good week for quarterback Brady Atwell to regain his Week 1 form.

OHS has to play much better offensively and I would like to see them open the play book up a little.  Way to much talent on the outside to have the vanilla play calling they had against DCHS last week

  • Said the same thing about the WR corps last week.  Rogers and Goodwin are gamebreakers and Pendleton is a huge weapon as well.  I would like to see some 2RB sets with Winstead and split Carbon outside

Owensboro Catholic is a great team that is consistently bodied by a veryTOUGH schedule.

I think Owensboro runs the clock on Friday; but that doesn’t mean I don’t respect the hell out of Catholic.

I agree with Wishbone here.  Although I think Owensboro wins comfortably, I don't think they get a 50 burger, but likely get a running clock.  That still doesn't mean I don't think OCath is a good team because they are.  When the Aces get to district, if they aren't too injured, they will roll through that comfortably all the way to Mayfield.

Defense has 3 DOMINATE players in Clark, Goodwin and Hines.  Besides that they haven’t performed up to expectations.  ILB, CB’s and Safeties have not made a lot of big time plays.  The secondary misses Moorman, Taylor and Carbon.  Rogers is filling in nicely but a lot of growing pains elsewhere.  O is missing Carbon at safety big time.  He is a game changer there.  O has got to step up to be a state contender.  If I’m ranking in terms of talent, they are top 2 in 5A.  But unless the defense improves vastly, they will not be in the championship game.

I say O does step up and despite OC playing slow, wins big.

Devils 42-7.

Will this game be streamed anywhere?

Owensboro should come out ticked off after the last 2 games with something to prove but I know Ocath will come to play an if a few more like Goodwin , Winstead  and Pendleton get more touches I believe it will be a long night for Ocath . Carbon and Rodgers have been solid and they are gonna do what they do and throw Carbon in the D and that home run throw will go away because he will make them pay .
