Was on staff at that time and Brad got us to the 09 title game at WKU. Stats were pretty good (172/241, 2196, 15/7) and I can tell you he could make every single throw. Maybe the most skilled QB we had at T other than Brian at that time and maybe since. He gets a bad rap at T, but he was a great kid and is doing a fantastic job as WR coach of the Bengals right now!

That's what is happening with Jay Cobb as the Trinity HC.

NLTanker is right.  It really isn't a knock on Cobb as a coach.  He is very solid.  I would argue that he is an elite defensive coordinator.  However, being the head coach at our program, comes with it, a lot.  You have decades of brothership, you have a trophy case full of trophies.  You have EXPECTATIONS.  I know the schedule is brutal, but it's been a tough schedule for decades.  Losing seasons are unacceptable.  We are looking down the barrel of a second losing season.  Allowing for X to have the momentum, and not putting fear into our opponents.

Obviously, I hope that Cobb succeeds.  I really really do.  Currently nothing is showing me that the dominance will be back anytime soon.  Not only did we lose last week, we got dominated.  That simply doesn't happen.  Sadly, it won't be the last time, this season, that it happens.

Isn't it a little soon to be drawing conclusions on Cobb as a head coach? I get that the standard at Trinity is different, but after losing the senior laden lineup of 2020, I thought a year or two to reload was a reasonable expectation. If I were a Trinity fan, I wouldn't lose sleep over losing the out of state games, as long as they're winning all  of the in-state games. I'm content to ride out this year and see what happens in 2023. Then again, I'm not one of you.

As far as St. Xavier having the momentum right now, I feel inclined to give more credit to their GOAT coach for finally being the right guy for the job. Obviously, Trinity losing its GOAT plays a factor there, but I can't lay this on Cobb.... yet.

Since 2000, Trinity has not gone consecutive years without a state title. So yes, our standards are high.

Kevin Wallace?

He is the coach at St. X. and he has 6 state titles as head coach, and been the runner-up in 3 others.

If he wasn't already an all-time great, I think last year's title sealed it. The timing of Beatty's exit and Wallace getting X over the hump doesn't do Wallace any favors here, but it's not like he was previously an unknown that just lucked into a title the year after Beatty retired and Trinity taking a breather for a year or two.

Do you think Trinity would not have been there if Beatty hadn't retired? 

I know it doesn't matter, because he did retire. But IF he hadn't, do you believe it still would've been X vs H? Or T vs X?

I wouldn't put anything past a Beatty coached team, but is he alone going to make up a four touchdown difference against Male last year? I say no.

4, no. But with him I remember 2018. After that they won back to back titles.

No shame in losing, if you keep it close.

Yes I'm delusional, fanatical guy. I expect more. And what we're witnessing is a very temporary downfall. Coach Cobb has a 5 year plan. I hope it ends sooner and Trinity does a national search to regain greaTness.

I think Beatty saw it as good time to retire because saw what I saw. Two classes that St. X beat bad as freshman. Frankly, St. X could have scored 70 on this years senior class when were freshman. Trinity junior class is very good and I expect Trinity to have best chance at championship next year although I'm not counting them out this year.

Just a bit of what I've seen of Trinity over the last two years, it comes down to their offense not quite putting the doubt into defensive players and coaches mind. Beatty did a really good job of giving defensive players different looks and kept building as the year went on. It just seems the Trinity offense has come pretty predictable in what they want to do and good defensive teams are able to dictate the play from the defensive side oppose to Beatty and the Trinity offense dictating the play on the field. Just something I've noticed.

Trinity does well on defense, last year they just didn't have the "dudes" in the DL they had the few years before. 

I watched the Moeller game. T was completely out classed in talent. Then I read this thread with my coffee this morning and was curious if any Beatty led teams have struggled offensively, I went back as far as 2013. They only scored a combined 21 pts against Male that year.  Got smoked by Moeller 14-42. The next year they scored 14 against Manual, Moeller, and 7 against Carmel.  There are other games in those years where there are less than stellar performances. Maybe offensive talent is the issue. Or over all talent. What if, and this is if, that Beatty timed his retirement just right. Lack of senior class overall talent in back to back years combined with a brutal schedule was his green light to get out. 

The next question is who to blame for the lack of talent? Did Beatty realize he was out and did not work at making sure that kids new they were wanted at T? Did X come in and out work them with the public school kids?
