Regardless, even at 503 is really sad.

I believe this year was a particularly small freshman class for Cov Cath, so enrollment would have dropped from last year's 503.

Clearly a blown call. 

The call was missed. But it doesn’t matter because Pikeville ended up scoring a couple plays after that.

The officiating was pretty poor. If you review the film, there are numerous instances during the game where the line of scrimmage was moved a yard or two after incomplete passes...happened for both offenses. That play was a blown call. There was a series where Pikeville wound up with 5 downs instead of 4. The clock had to be corrected several times over, and generally continued to run for 2 or 3 seconds after the officials called a touchdown. There was a second half play by Pikeville with an exchange between the QB and the RB that looked like an awfully clear fumble recovered by Cov Cath that ended up ruled an incomplete pass somehow.

This is the reality of the officiating shortage we have.

I agree.  It happens every week at every game.  The guys do the best job they can.

Maybe.... maybe not.

The fumble doesn't necessarily change that if Pikeville doesn't make the same play call once they get the ball again for their next possession that they don't score on the same play as well. Obviously they called a play that caught CovCath in either the right defense or in the wrong position.

 

With that said, it goes to prove that in football you can't control the calls on the field and one missed call may have an effect, but it will never make up for the 100 snaps that happen around it where you just need to try to win more of those snaps than you lose.

 

CovCath won because they won more of those snaps, especially at the start of the game. Pikeville lost because CovCath won more snaps.
