For your first coaching job to be your alma mater must be pretty cool.  I think Payne will do well.

  • He is absolutely killing this press conference. I'm sold.

  • We'll see if it actually happens. If he's not on staff, I see no reason DJ would go to Louisville.

Sounds like KP is officially bringing Milt Wagner on staff.

It’s a no brainer hire if it secures DJ.

If we’re being honest, minus the scandals, UL is in close to the same shape UK was in when they hired Cal. They’ve become stagnant. The University name doesn’t carry nearly as much clout as it did years ago.

A new coach and a quick influx of talent can change all that in a season.

Payne was a solid hire. I don’t think he was the first choice by a mile but they absolutely could have done worse.

It will be interesting to see how he recruits at UL.

UL Recruiting: Milt -> New Joisey -> UL.

Yahtzee!

Skyy Clark to Illinois…

So is Milt Wagner still in play as a coach for Louisville?

Or is that not happening and they brought in Josh Jamieson?

Milt won't be on staff, at least not for the foreseeable future.

In order for Louisville to be able to recruit DJ Wagner, Milt would have had to been a bench assistant or nothing. The speculation was that Milt would be hired to get DJ, but I think the narrative has changed because Louisville feels they can get DJ "without" Milt.

I can see him being involved in some way down the road, but not until after DJ decides where he's going to school.

Oh okay gotcha. Yeah, when KP first got hired, seems like a lot speculated they'd hire Milt Wagner on staff. So I was curious if that was still the speculation.

IMO, the Milt speculation was based solely on the DJ angle.

I don't think Milt has any desire to be an assistant coach.

Was this Josh Jameison a name that UL fans were expecting or familiar with?

Not at all. But neither was Danny Manning in terms of being expected.

KP has kept everything extremely close to the vest. Even veteran media members that have covered UofL for years didn't know about Manning or Jameison until literally minutes before the press conferences for each.

No clue about Jameison, never heard of him.

Love the Nolan and Manning hires for Payne though. A good young recruiter and a veteran bench coach.

My thoughts are that Jameison was brought on for his Ops experience. Rumors of a potential Director of Ops or special assistant to the HC who may be coming on and would look to Jameison as a mentor.
