Any details about the game?

I'm paraphrasing, but someone commented how Cooper had slowed the game down, and this was my response:

Actually the Jags didn’t slow it down as much as we’re used to seeing. The 36-36 tied game at the end of 3 might suggest this, but they played with more intensity on the offensive side of the ball than I’ve seen them play all season.

With the Colonel’s relentless “D” the Jags had to stay on their toes, and even early on when they got down 7-0 they were forced to rush things frantically until they were able to find a better rhythm to settle down some to get back in it.

I was impressed when they did because at first the game had blowout written all over it.

They were patient enough to find crafty ways to score when often it appeared there was nothing there.

I’ll agree that their patience is a sign of slowing things down, but being down most of the game they couldn’t afford to sit back taking the air out of the ball like we’ve often seen them do this season.

Even in their 20+ wins this season, with their slow ball intense ‘D’ approach, they never seemed to ever put any teams away, but just enough to get the ‘W’ as a win is a win. They seemed to play up or down to their opponents’ strengths. For example they only beat Newport this season by 5, and were still able to give the almighty Colonels a good game. 

Their formula is pretty unique, and as we’ve seen by a largely successful season, very effective. While this was a win for the Colonels, it really didn’t feel like a loss for the Jags. Their never say die ethos sure gave the crowd at the BB&T something to see. Both teams wanted it bad, but even in their loss the Jags still seemed to have won the Mr. Hustle award all said and done. 

When was the last time a team held Ipsaro to zero points in the first half? My guess would be never. Right there was a big win for the Jags. Impressive!

The entire game changed when Sully went with Rondon at the point as he handled the pressure as well as anyone could against CCH pressure and then Cooper went to a zone and packed it in and NO ONE for CCH was interested in shooting an outside shot, not even Ipsaro.

Sully is a fantastic coach and proved it again. Great effort by the Jags. Congrats to CovCath on a survive and advance win.

"Survive"? I don't know if that even qualifies as a back handed compliment or if it's just an outright jab.

CCH won by 12 points. Cooper's only point (singlular) in the 4th quarter was a free throw. That sounds like some very competent "surviving" by CCH if you ask me.

I could go on about my thoughts about how fantastic a coach Sully is in relation to his ducking CCH in their basketball schedule and what kind of lesson that teaches his players, but I won't.

…and apparently, NO ONE from Cooper was interested in scoring in the fourth quarter.

Wow! Someone is all in their feelings here, on something that wasn’t even a shot at Covcath.
 

Covcath is one of the top teams in the state, and no one in the 9th was even expected to keep it close with them. Yet it was a tie game after 3 quarters, and I believe only a 3 point game with 3 minutes left. So yeah that definitely qualifies as survive and advance, because that definitely put a scare into Covcath that not many people were truly expecting. Which credit to Covcath because they locked down in the 4th quarter at the end. This was definitely a game that qualified as survive and advance, because the final score was not an indication at all of how close this game was. 
 

Also yes Sully is one of the best coaches in the 9th and the state. He showed that again with how this game was, and I would say the lessons he teaches his kids are pretty darn good.

You nailed it FC and explained my intent better than I could have done it - lol! Sully does a great job of character and team building. Nothing but respect for him and congrats to the Colonels for advancing and surviving.

Absolutely amazing how not playing a team 1 year equates to “ducking” at team! Cooper has played CCH nearly every year of there short 13 year existence but they don’t match up this year and suddenly their scared, hilarious because if you know coach Sully you would understand he’s not scare of ANY team. 
 

There are reasons it just didn’t work out this year, so be it, but the Jags clearly showed that despite being outmanned and expected to lose by 20+, they came out and fought and for 3 qtrs they were primed to possibly pull off the upset. CCH played stiff defense in the 4th qtr, made their free throws and the Jags offense couldn’t score and while there are no moral victories they were able to hold one of the best, high powered teams in the state to their lowest point total of the year. 

CCH won the game and kudos to them, move on.
