It would have been here or somewhere else public before he ever got a chance. He had to tell the team at Larue first. At that point, it’s public knowledge. Better to make an official announcement than let the rumors continue, in my opinion.

Very few if any teams (if any in the day of social media) meet their new coach first, before it's announced publicly. I don't see the gripe here at all.

I certainly understand the sentiment @ckyguy...it would be nice for everyone to find out in person, straight from the horse's mouth. But like @Mr.Network mentioned, in the social media age, as soon as the coach tells one group, then someone posts something to Facebook or Twitter and then the other group finds out.

To a certain extent, the school also has a small amount of obligation to break the news so there isn't any misinformation going around about someone else getting hired...goodness knows that's happened before, and that's no good for hurt feelings either.

In one of the years prior, there was a post from someone replying to a similar post to yours...the gist was, "There are gonna be some hard lessons you learn in life, and kids need to learn that somewhere along the way. One of those lessons is that there's no ideal way to find out disappointing news. Sometimes it's more disappointing than others, and sometimes the way you find out is more disappointing than others. If nothing else, this is a life lesson that sometimes people have to do what's best for themselves and their families, and sometimes those decisions are going to be hard for you to swallow. But you've got to take the good with the bad and move on."

I have been blessed in my lifetime with many things, most importantly, . Faith, family, friends, and football. Throughout my life, I have been blessed to call two places home. Here and back around the Lincoln County/Stanford/Danville area, where I spent almost 20 years of my life. The faces in this room have been my home and comfort for 14 amazing years. 

One thing I've tried to always do is know that it's ok to take new chances and to grow when the time comes. I have tried to encourage you all and the boys that came before you, to never stop growing, be it as a football player or as a man. Whether that's professionally in a trade field, to a local college, or to play at the next level at Wyoming like Jaxon Boley, to Army like Anthony Adkins, to WKU, EKU, Lindsey Wilson, Centre, Georgetown or Kentucky Wesleyan.

For me, Megan, and the girls, a time to grow has come. My second home, Lincoln County, where I lived from the age of 9 until I was 16 is giving me a new opportunity to revisit a place that has always been second to here in my heart. I've long told people that "My TWO 'LC's' raised me" & I believe that with every ounce of my being.

I've struggled with this because the faces in this room, many other close relationships and memories all are what has kept me here. But, I have decided that I need to take a risk and a chance and grow, and I've accepted the position at Lincoln County High School.

To our coaching staff that has developed an unbelievable chemistry over the years as well as all being close friends: I've told you guys countless times, yet while probably not enough, that there isn't any way we would have accomplished what we have without you guys.

To our players- past, present and future- I want you to know that while you may not be physically present with me on the field next year, I can with 100% certainty guarantee that you are going to be forever in my heart, especially on Friday nights. I will CONTINUE to support, believe and love you. One of my greatest joys in this coaching profession outside of developing relationships is the recruiting process in watching so many of you chase your dreams. Several of you are going to get those same opportunities in the coming years and I vow to you that I will work just as hard for you at Lincoln County just as I hope you know that I have here at LaRue County while coaching you. I hope that you can respect my decision to grow and take a chance on a new opportunity at my very familiar childhood second home, which is the only other place I would be if not here.

To our parents, boosters and support staff over the years here: You all have been nothing short of amazing and supportive. Thank you for entrusting your sons to us like you have. I can promise you that the effect they have had on me is every bit as much (and, likely more) than the impact that I've hopefully had on them.

To the administration I've had over the years like our Athletic Director, David Dawson and Principal's Travis Gay & D.W. Cruse- three men that aren't just my bosses, but truly like family and best friends...THANK YOU for your unconditional love and support over the years and throughout this process. I also want to thank Paul Mullins (now superintendent of Logan County schools) for giving me the opportunity of hiring me the first time in 2012, former Superintendent Sam Sanders and principal Denise Skaggs for having the belief in me to accept the job back in 2017. Rodney Armes who is the most successful coach in the history of the program is yet another head football coach that I've had the privilege of coaching under over my years- thank you for the mentor and friend you have been. I also want to thank our current Superintendent, Mr. David Raleigh, for his support and understanding throughout this extremely difficult & heartfelt decision.

We've long had a saying here at LaRue County, "Once a Hawk, Always a Hawk" and I want you to know that is something I believe to my core. I'll be finishing out the school year here at LaRue County, while making trips back and forth 75 miles down Highway 150, and I'll still be here supporting and wearing my "LaRue County" gear just as pridefully as I ever have. While I may not be here as much in the physical sense in the coming years, a huge part of my heart will forever be a LaRue County Hawk.

In the exciting transition to Lincoln County High School- I can't wait to get started there in meeting the players, coaches, parents and support staff. I'm excited about seeing those that I grew up with, and remained close friends with over the years despite the distance. I want to thank Mr. Michael Godbey (Lincoln County High School Principal, Brad Petrey (Lincoln County High School Athletic Director), Brad Smith (Assistant Athletic Director) and Darren Yaden for their EXTREME support in this decision making process, understanding all that it entails & giving us this opportunity.

My memories of "Death Valley" as a ball boy for my dad, Marty Jaggers' teams of the 1990's and even playing as a "Patriot" my freshman year in 1996 are as vivid as ever. There are few places in the state of Kentucky that can rival when things are rocking in the Valley. 

I'd also be remiss if I didn't acknowledge Coach Spencer Crutchfield and his staff for the job they have done with Lincoln County Football over the past four years & I want to congratulate him on ALSO going back to his home at Garrard County. It's my purpose to continue to build on their successes and momentum over the last few years along with helping to continue developing young men of high character so that they to one day are able to chase their dreams beyond high school in becoming very productive members of society's as well as great husbands and father's. 

I want to last, but not least thank my ever supportive family. To my wife, Megan in supporting and being there for me over the years and through this extremely emotional decision. To our girls Avery (10) and Layla (7) who are the absolute beat of our hearts- I know this is a nervous time for them, just as it was me when I was about their age(s) and moving to Lincoln County & now some 30 years later, not being able to imagine my life not having the relationships I have there. To my mom, Judy, my dad, Marty and my sister's Lindsey and Ellise for always being there, especially these last several days and late night calls/texts from myself encouraging us to "Be Brave." I love all of you more than life itself.

In closing, all of the emotions that are wrapped up in a decision like this epitomize the meaning of "bittersweet", but as one door closes, another one opens- a new adventure, a new chapter which is what this thing called "Life" is all about.

The amount of excitement I have right now,  I’m not sure I’ve been this excited about a coaching hire since John Calipari got hired at Kentucky. Extremely excited, and glad that Lincoln County pulled this off. Fantastic hire.

I second that. Spencer had the program going in the right direction, and I believe Josh will continue that. It’ll be interesting to see if this team can win a district title and/or regional championship in the next few years.  

Congratulations to a tremendous person and coach! Josh will do great things at Lincoln County.
