Early thoughts on what 2A looks like next year? IMO you are going to see LCA vs BW part 4 (BW played LCA in 1A finals back in the day). LCA loses some real fire power but don’t be fooled. I think BW has a strong chance of being back but their identity changes IMO. Danville will be competitive but still has a ways to go. I said it earlier this year Mayfield still has to get a lot better to compete with LCA and BW. Middlesboro, well we saw that show a couple of weeks ago. OC? Possibly in the mix but I just don’t see anyone who knocks LCA or BW off the top. 

Mayfield will be fine.

Shelby Valley, and Walton Verona could be in the mix.

WV should definitely be in the mix as they started 7-8 SOs against BW in Regional Final!

From what I have seen too SV is young and will be in the mix as well!

Don’t sleep on either one of these teams!

Mayfield has a ton back. 

Agree R1 Sports Fan as Mayfield is young and will definitely be a contender in 2A. 2A should be very competitive in 2022- any other teams to watch out for as I can see the following (apologize if any team was left out):

BW- have to unseat the 2 time defending champ before they fall from #1- they will reload for sure

LCA- 2 time defending state runner up- enough said

MAYFELD- young and very athletic

SV- prob has one of best QBs in class

WV- strong So class with skill

DANVILLE- heard they were young and was coaches 1st yr 

OC- ????

SOMERSET- ???

BREATHITT- I believe they were young this yr

GREEN COUNTY- ????

OTHERS- METCALFE COUNTY, LLOYD, MIDDLESBORO, WEST CARTER, MARTIN COUNTY, PRESTONSBURG

Mayfield will have a very talented freshman class next year. They are very talented.

Beechwood had probably the best Freshmen class they ever had this year. They aren’t going anywhere as well. 

Owensboro Catholic will return majority of their defense. Losing a couple of OL, QB and Braden Mundy. Mundy will be a huge loss but they have a couple of rising Sophomores they really like at QB. Hancock County could be another team to keep an eye on depending on health. They were a very Junior heavy team this year. 

It’s a three team race with Beechwood, LCA and Mayfield until someone proves otherwise. 

That’s why they play the game but one thing is for sure, 2022 should be another exciting year in 2A. Anyone know if they plan on tweaking the RPI formula/calculations next season? Wasn’t sure if there were any plans on potential changes- thanks!

WV Sophmore class is very strong! I  believe 7 SO starters toward the end of the year. including Tyson Beach who rushed for 1200 plus yrds! SO QB that looked very quick against Beechwood... obviously out classed that game. With some off season work I think WV will be a contender 2022.

When you combine the talent Beechwood and LCA have at their disposal with the schedules they play the rest of 2A is always going to play catch up.  I didn’t include Mayfield because I don’t know enough about the caliber of teams in the West that Mayfield plays.  More often than not when the Walton Veronas, Shelby Valleys and Middlesboros play a Beechwood or LCA in the playoffs that is the best team they have played all year. That is not the case for Beechwood and LCA.

In this current alignment, Year in and year out there’s about a 90% chance the 2A champ will be Beechwood, LCA, or Mayfield.  Include Somerset and maybe Danville and it goes up to about 98%.
