There's a little Irish Catholic school on a Cinderella run of their own this year. Started the season 0-5 and have rattled off 5 wins in their last 6 games. A true Cinderella story.

Steinhauser, the first principal, doesn't sound very Irish to me...

  • 2009 Paducah Tilghman went 4-6 in the regular season including a 22 point loss to McLean County. Went on the road the first three rounds of the playoffs then won it al in 3A.

  • It was a little more than a decade ago, but Simon Kenton, in 2008 I believe, made a run to the 6A finals.  Went on the road and beat Male to earn the right to be Trinity's sacrificial lamb.

2014 Dixie could qualify for this list. They ended up getting rolled by Trinity in the championship game, however.

They will be honoring the 1996 Nelson County Cardinals at the state finals on December 3rd.  I think they qualified as Cinderella.

Didnt an SK team enter the playoffs with a losing record and make it all the way to the finals??

They came to mind for me as well, but that team was on a 9 game winning streak entering the playoffs. They were loaded with talent and a great rushing offense, over 4,000 yards rushing that season. I don't see them as a Cinderella entering the playoffs.

I think 2011 Covington Holy Cross might qualify for this list. They finished the regular season 7-3. Had a running clock put on them by Beechwood. Lost their district regular season matchup to New Cath 31-14. No one expected them to get past New Cath in the regional final. They squeaked out a 24-21 win at New Cath. Then they bulldozed their way to a state title beating Somerset 48-14 in the semis and Glasgow 33-14 in the title game.

I could be wrong but I believe that Holy Cross team was ranked in the top 5 in 2A in the state that year entering the playoffs. The year before Holy Cross had made the regional championship before losing to NCC who won the state title. So I believe they were known as one of the top 2A teams entering that season.  They just happened to lose to a really good Beechwood team, which it was only a 14 to 12 game at half before Beechwood dominated the third quarter and a very good NCC team in the regular season.

2020 Franklin county

2015 Johnson Central they had a quarter final game with scott losing 21-7 going into the third ended up winning 26-27 I believe I know it’s a one point win coming down the the last play touchdown pass they went on to make the state losing to south warren 36-6.

All true points. I wonder how many times Dixie has made it to the finals.

I remember the BGP discussions that year between NCC and HC about if was a rivalry or not if HC never beat NCC!  That was the year of the famous power failure at Holmes in the 3rd quarter with HC up 41-0!  Lots of conspiracy theories on where the "power failure" came from.  Fun times.

In my opinion maybe the best ever.

I have to add my Bullitt East team of 2008. I think we were like 2-4 and ended up losing to Bell County in the Championship in a an all out war. Had a chance to tie with seconds to go and put the game into overtime but missed on our 2 point conversion attempt.
