  1. Trinity vs St. X. Playoffs ticket update. The initial allotment for digital tickets has sold out. Digital ticket sales are paused until Monday evening after each school has had the opportunity to sell tickets to its students and determine capacity limits after those sales. ☘️🏈 From Trinity Twitter - not calling it X for obvious reasons…
  2. The Wall Street Journal recently had a very informative 529 article - article date was 5/2. It was withdrawal advice more so than general information, but still good info. The link below is unlocked and hopefully will work. https://www.wsj.com/articles/withdraw-from-529-college-saving-plan-8f217b6a?st=vb1rmos4nyhvd4x&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink
  3. On the ride home, which was not as long as predicted, (we spent more time in the Arby's drive-thru before the game than on the ride home, but my sandwich and drink were tasty, so it was a wash) we noticed a roadside stand selling video games. We stopped for a minute to browse and this particular item caught my eye: I asked the proprietor about this intriguing piece of Americana. He said it was a one-off produced for a mysterious customer known only as MC44 and who never came back for it. I inquired about the price, he mystically stated "to some it is worthless, to others priceless". Some may think the Madden Curse is real. There is a long list at https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/what-is-the-madden-curse/ of players that have succumbed to it. You be the judge...
  4. The end zones are green in the middle because white lettering made it harder for soccer goalies to visually pick up the ball as it headed towards the goal. The green in the middle end zones offer greater contrast.
  5. The construction is a new courtyard between the visitor's stands and Shamrock Hall.
  6. Stats that were sent to me have Ryle with three penalties (Delay, Offsides, Ineligible) for 15 yards and Trinity with 10 (Holding (5), Encroachment, Delay, Unspecified, PI, and Offsides) penalties for 87 yards. Trinity also had an Unsportsman Like called on the field goal at the end of the second quarter - assessed on the second half kickoff. There were two officiating instances which particularly riled the Trinity faithful: A holding call on a 75 yard TD run by Brady Willis. The casual observer would see this and think "I am not surprised, Trinity had four other holding calls". The issue with this is prior to the play, during a timeout, one of the Ryle coaches had a discussion with not one, not two, but three officials on the field. After the timeout, Brady takes the snap and scores. When Trinity scores on a long run or pass, the experienced (some may say jaded) Trinity fan never celebrates the score until they scan the field for a flag. Sure enough, the yellow cloth of shame. This is not a good look for the officials. It is one thing for a coach to jaw with an official from the sideline, it is another when a coach talks to three officials on the field during a timeout and a flag flies on the next play. What is interesting about this play is that it does not appear in the play-by-play description I received. According to my analysis of the play-by-play I don't believe this holding call is included in the Trinity penalty stats. Where is Earl Warren when you need him? Ryle fumbled a fair catch punt and Trinity recovers. However, one of the officials prematurely blew his whistle - at what point during the play no one knows. The officials gathered and determined the need for a do-over because of the inadvertent whistle. We all understand players stopping at the whistle, what is not understood is how a third round playoff official can blow an early whistle during a punt return. Punts are dropped all the time regardless of if a fair catch is signaled or not. We benefit from having officials, they are out there and I am not. Thanks to Jack H and his source, Todd G, for the stats.
  7. Steinhauser, the first principal, doesn't sound very Irish to me...
  8. Trinity did not have any. There were some parents expressing concern for their kids having to play against fifth year seniors.

First downs: Trinity 9, Eastern 4 ▪ Rushing yds: Trinity 93, Eastern 6 ▪ Passing yds: Trinity 57, Eastern 20. The story of the game was Trinity miscues and mistakes. Courier-Journal 16 Oct 1993 B3.
  10. Video from St. X: https://boxcast.tv/view/varsity-football-vs-trinity-998364 Very good video, in more ways than one...
  11. I wonder if he will refer to Male as the defending two time state runner-up...
  12. Running clock 45 seconds into the second quarter (42-0). I believe it is the quickest running clock I have ever seen. I don't know if we were overlooking Eastern last week but there was a big difference in how we played this week versus last week. The Courier article about Beatty this week did not do Dixie Heights any favors. It wasn't standard trash talk bulletin board material but I am sure it hit a note with every player.
