I've heard Kevin Hart and a few others say that Chappelle is now the G.O.A.T. when it comes to stand-up comedy.

I used to think Pryor or Murphy were maybe the best. Chappelle's stand-up specials have me agreeing with with Hart.

So if not Chappelle, who else is in the running for the best Stand-up ever?

Just talking standup here....

Hot take.

Chapelle is tremendous and I love him, but he achieved a Paul Bunyan type status with his hiatus from comedy a few years back. His sketch comedy is what made Chapelle, Chapelle. Not his standup routine. Which again, is great, but I can't go to GOAT.

This in bold.

I am not sure about the GOAT but he is on my short list.

GOAT anything is such a subjective argument.   For my money it is,

1) George Carlin (His fascination with words and how they are used sets him apart)

1a) Richard Pryor

2) Lenny Bruce

3) Robin Williams

And between 1 and 1A to 2 and 3 is a huge drop off.

Of the "Modern Day" stand up guys, IMO, the best is Patton Oswalt.

I have never really been a Chappelle fan.  My first introduction to him was Robin Hood: Men in Tights and that movie was bad enough to make me not want to look into him any further.

I like Carlin a lot and loved Richard Pryor. I've not seen enough of Bruce to form an opinion. As far as Williams goes, I probably wouldn't walk across the street to see him...he's just not my cup of tea. I like some of Oswalt. While Oswalt is decent, in my opinion no way he's the best of this generation.
