Phillips cited player health safety and length of season as reason ACC doesn't support expansion, but really it's that he wants an 8 team format instead of 12.

Big 10 wants AQ for P5 champions instead of language of 6 highest ranked conference champions. 

Pac 12 wants the Rose Bowl to get special consideration and has raised concerns about revenue distribution. Basically, they know they aren't getting more than 1 team in, even in a 12 team format. 

Big 12, SEC, Mike Aresco (AAC), and Jack Swarbrick of ND are the only ones really on the same page with the 12 team format and language of 6 highest ranked conference champions and 6 at large.

I get the player safety and health with such an extended season but I also get what you are saying Phillips is using that as a cover excuse for not wanting a 12 team format.  

These things always come down to money, right? They could not care less about player safety. If it were such a concern, cut back the season a game or two. Problem solved.

Left $450 million on the table by not expanding to 12. I think the big thing is a few conferences don't want ESPN to own the rights and have all the power. Want to open it up to more bidders to drive that number up more.

 Considering the makeover ESPN has went through over the past few years, I would venture to say that they are probably all in on trying to maintain as much control over college football playoffs as possible.

Power:Money. Interchangeable. I just hate when they hide behind the "player safety" excuse. Nobody buys it.

 

16 is the right number.

16 is fine, I'm still going to hate having automatic qualifiers but it is what it is.

If 16 is the number, then first round and maybe 2nd round on campus. At least one round completed prior to Christmas. A second round around New Years. Then a week off before third round and fourth round. Ideally title game would be the week prior to the Superbowl. 

Just my way of thinking on it.
