Most impressive to me is the Tiger Defense. There is a wall upfront, with a ROTATION. O’Shea, Gibbs, Vanderpool, Jackson, Campbell, Slusher……. First time in a long time that 2 way players are getting rest on D and the team not missing a beat. Heck, Slusher isnt even starting. How about that coming off the bench?  These fellas are stout as a unit. Get past them and you meet a LB core 2nd to none. With off season champion Austin Waddell roaming the Middle, with Berger and Hatfield flanking him, good luck. If you happen to get past all that, you meet a Defensive Back unit that is deeper than I’ve ever seen in HS football. 

My point?  Time for focus and accolades for this Tiger team to shift from the Offense to the Defense. We all know what the Offense can do, and should do this year. But what the Defensive unit has done thus far preparing for and playing this season, well, it has positioned BW for a historic run. Time for folks to take notice. Go tigers……..

Best Tiger team in a while. Can’t wait to watch them pummel CCH. 

People are way out over their ski's with the CCH predictions. Tiger fans should be overjoyed if Beechwood is able to get the win.

In spite of the final score, IMO Somerset is the best team Beechwood has played. They did some nice things on offense. I think they will keep getting better as the year goes on and be a tough opponent at playoff time.

Somerset fans were super nice. Class act all the way around. Great program in place there.

Heard from some friends with kids who are starters for beechwood. Word is they were shocked at how bad Somerset was…. Complete shell of the team they’ve faced in recent years. Obviously beechwood is really good, but the teams they’ve played so far have been terrible.

And no fault to beechwood, Paintsville and Somerset are normally really solid teams to have on the schedule, just happens that they both lost most of their starters from last year and haven’t reloaded at all.

Graduation and a couple key kids transferring to a prep school in New England, really depleted Somerset. They'll be back, but this year was always going to be rough.

3-0 and no one has scored on Beechwood yet.

This could prove to be true. All three teams look good on paper but they haven't shown anything yet this year. Fairdale undefeated in regular season last year but 0-2 now this year. Paintsville defending state champion and ranked in the top 5 in 1A but also 0-2. Somerset ranked around 5 in 2A but they are also 0-2. So Beechwood opponents are winless on the year. I think Paintsville and Somerset are top ten teams in their respective class at the end of the year, but who knows. Maybe they are all down this season?

They could be by years end…. Who knows. I just have heard from some at Beechwood that both were really down compared to last last couple years of having played them. And Beechwood will face a really down SK next week too, which they obviously can’t control. It is odd for those teams to have such big drop offs from just last year, but seems to be the case.

I agree they are down from last year but I think they are still solid teams. Paintsville was state champ last year so no surprise they might be down. Somerset lost some top shelf talent and is young. Down from last year yes, but not bad teams.

It should be one heck of a game. I do think Beechwood will win though. This year I honestly think Beechwood is a top 10 team in the state regardless of class, and honestly probably closer to the top 5. They are so dang good and don’t really have any flaws at all. So it should be a good game, but I do expect Beechwood to win.  

Somerset is really young majority of their team has never played a primary role on a high school football team. Their leading rusher from last year went out in the first quarter vs Lincoln co with a concussion. He returned in Beechwood game and went out sometime in the first quarter with what is looking like ACL so he is probably done. Somerset is going to be getting a few players back this week from injury that will really help and be able to move players around to their natural position. Somerset OL is pretty good they didn’t give up a sack against Beechwood and they moved the ball down the field pretty good they were inside the 10  three times and couldn’t punch it in. Somerset’s QB also threw 3 INT that didn’t help. That being said we will have pretty much the whole team back for the next 2 years and have a really good 8th grade class coming in next year. In all fairness to Somerset when spring practice started they thought they would be in better shap this season but they did have 5 kids transfer 2 are major D1 players it is just hard to recover that much talent in a short period of time.

To be honest, Somerset is an above average program, they will get every once in while an exceptional team. They had that team a few years ago .
