Pirates attempt to right the ship against sky high Eagles

Records: LCA (2-0), Belfry (0-2)

BGP Ranking: LCA (#2 in 2A), Belfry (#6 in 3A)

Series History: Belfry leads 1-0 all-time

Table Setter: This battle of brand names finds each school heading in a different direction. LCA, already a co-favorite in 2A, saw its stock take a bump in Week 2, while Belfry is off to its worst start in 23 years.

The Eagles scored a win in one of last week's biggest games by downing Boyle County in Danville to hand the Rebels their first loss on home soil in five years. With quarterback Drew Nieves out, the ground game was rolling for the Eagles. Xavier Brown erupted for over 200 yards rushing, including the game winning 68 yarder in the fourth quarter.

Belfry took another one on the chin, this time from Covington Catholic. Turnovers helped do the Pirates in, giving a big edge in field position to the Colonels, who in turn, capitalized. Belfry did, however, show signs of improvement. They may need a few more steps in the right direction if they hope to hang with LCA and possibly avoid the program's first 0-3 start since 1955.

This matchup features two of the finest runners Kentucky has to offer in Isaac Dixon and the aforementioned Xavier Brown, both of whom you should find frequenting the Mr. Football Watchlist this season.

Boy, Belfry has a tough schedule!

Just now from Facebook:

Due to the rise in Covid cases in our school, community, team, and the resulting exposure, we believe it is in the best interest of our team to cancel practices this week and Friday’s game with Lexington Christian.  Our player’s health and safety must always come first.

There's not much option for LCA as far as opponent at this time.

Lexington Christian's drive to Belfry would have been 30 minutes longer than it would be to Johnson Central. Just sayin'.

I hear you CWB but I assume JC is a solid 5 touchdowns better than Belfry.  It would be a very physical game for LCA.

Maybe even longer depending on the way they would travel to get there.

This would be a marquee match up!  I hope it happens.

But, is LCA smart to risk losing RPI points in case of a loss?

This game needs to happen! Maybe we can speak it into existence...

Man, I can't wait to see how LCA's athleticism and JC's size and physicality match up.
