Another fact is that Rich Brooks has always pointed to the fact that he had less talent then the teams he was playing as a reason for losing, when the reality of the SEC is that he will always have less talent than the top teams in the SEC.

 

All the more reason to be impressed by what he did this year...

 

 

Also the fact that he has a string of losses to teams he was more talented than doesn't make the future look any brighter with him at the helm.

If you're talking about 2-3 years ago, forget it, cause we are just now seeing what Brooks can do with his own recruits and recruiting continues to improve every year...

Yes I was talking about past years. You guys are the ones that have to live with this mistake, I simply don't understand how you all can be so short sighted, one season doesn't make a career.

The fact is that Brooks HAS improved the program. A short extension is just what is needed. If he can continue the improvement he deserves to stay.

Regardless of the level that his rivals play at, defeating the top rivals should be a goal, and at this point it is an unaccomplished goal. That alone is no reason, but is an aspect to be considered when talking about an extension.

But Morris was doing no recruiting to go along with the talent he was left with. His stay would have been short with the lack of recruiting he was doing during his tenure at UK. I liked Morris, but he couldn't recruit, especially with his hands tied as they were. Morris didn't leave Brooks nearly as much talent as Mumme left him, regardless of how Mumme got them.

 

Brooks deserves this extension plain and simple. I have supported him all season and am proud that he is the head man for the Cats. We have a coach with ethics and for that I am thankful! :thumb:

I think it is fine that they did what they were supposed to. It means they are playing competitively. I don't think doing what your "supposed to do" should garner award in lieu of a history of underperforming.

 

Defining the UK season as "great" is inaccurate. Brooks isn't capable of building the program to a level that can win the SEC East, therefore I think this extension is a poor overeaction to a little positivity.

 

OK.. he wasn't supposed to beat Clemson. What now? Is 8-5 worthy of an extension? Should he have been fired for his "history of underperforming" regardless of what he did this season? Did he have to go 13-0 to be worthy of an extension?

First Bowl win since 1984.How many coaches have we had in the last 22 years that couldnt do what Brooks just did a couple of hours ago ? I dont care what the cats' record was, who they beat or who beat them. The guy won a bowl game, something that hasnt been done in my lifetime. How can you fault a guy and say that he doesnt deserve the extension for doing what he has done this year.Brooks deserves the extension. Simple as that.

IMO this win over Clemson is the biggest thing he has done at UK, and it is significant, for that I must give him Kudos. I still don't think he is the answer for UK, time will ultimately tell.
