I don't think doing what your "supposed to do" should garner award in lieu of a history of underperforming. Defining the UK season as "great" is inaccurate. Brooks isn't capable of building the program to a level that can win the SEC East, therefore I think this extension is a poor overeaction to a little positivity. :sleep: :sleep: :sleep:
December 24, 200619 yr To continue to bring in solid recruiting classes as he has done he has to have the backing of the University. Considering where UK was and what they had to deal with, .. and what they really were even before the NCAA issues to say that this year wasn't much better is not giving an honest appraisal of their progress. :thumb: Good post!!!

Isn't doing what you're "supposed to do" called fulfilling your obligations in your contract? I bet there are ADs out there who would love a coach who did what they are supposed to do.
December 25, 200619 yr Well, I'm happy for UK and Coach Brooks. As someone who's defended him every year, while the majority of his fan base have bashed him, I REALLY feel delighted for him! He's finally in a position to prove he's much, MUCH better than UK fans give him credit for. He's not had one iota of opportunitiy until now to do so, and he absolutely deserves his shot to do so. I don't care what kind of "padding" was done to the schedule. UL took a long route to where they are now, including the stint in the C-USA. They played on Thursday nights, they played some really weak links. But it's paid off in spades. UK can't do anything about their football conference. The SEC is what it is. They're better off scheduling their OOC games to be potentially winnable, than to schedule powers who will pound their self-confidence and make it even more difficult for them to stay motivated for the tougher games. All you detractors just let it go! Let the man prove what he can do!

He should have an extension, he pulled UK from the bottom of College Football, and has made them top 40 right now, and this team will only get better, I have never called for his job, because I thought he should have a chance to show what he could do with his players and his team, and look what he's done, he has UK going to a bowl for the 1st time since 99'. And we have people that think he shouldn't get an extension, But these are the same people who from day 1, has called for his job, wake up people, nobody wanted to coach KY, and what MB brought in was a Honest, well know ( good or bad ) coach, who Built Oregon, and will do UK the same, he will retire, and when he doe's, he'll turn it over to the best recruiter in the nation, Joker Phillips, Enjoy what Brooks has done, Because nobody else would have done it.

Godd post. I have sail all along that Brooks deserved a fair chance and this year he proved he can coach when given the opportunity. Everyone keeps mentioning the soft schedule. UK did beat Ga., which at the first of the year wasn't predicted to perform as poorly as they normally do, and they did have 7 wins in the SEC. As far as the scheduling of the SEC opponents, UK had no choice in who and where they play them. I'm in favor of Rich Brooks and hope he keeps UK climbing in the area of respectability. You have to crawl before you walk, and hopefully we will see this program on a full run in the near future.

The real sticking point with Brooks is that he has the respect of the players and to me that is convincing enough.

December 25, 200619 yr I would like to add, Brooks has done what he's done, By being honest. Unlike some coaches who was handed a program that was on the rise, I could have done what BP has done, If Smith handed me what he handed BP.

Did Lou Mon score 40 pionts on UK? Has Rich Brooks beaten Louisville? Did the UK players say they took IU for granted the year they lost to them? Has Rich Brooks lost to LSU 49-0, S.Car 44-16, UGA 45-13 62-17 Ala 45-17 and so on and so on. If your only arguement for what is said, is who is saying it, then you have no arguement.
December 26, 200619 yr I was critical of Brooks in the beginning and didn't think he was the man for the job but he has proven me wrong. Brooks has done an excellent job of getting things moving in the right direction and IMO has earned the contract extention. He has the respect of the players and that to me is the real sticking point of his success. I hope the trend continues. Good luck to the Wildcats in Music City. :thumb: I have also been more than critical of Brooks and have called for his job more than once. I must say however that he seems to be getting the job done in recruiting and having his players believing in his system. :thumb: Now...............If he could only rid himself and U.K. football of Archer.
