Cardinals and Flyers collide in the Battle of Elkhorn Creek

Records: Season opener for both teams

BGP Rankings: Scott County (#6 in 5A), Franklin County (#4 in 4A)

Series History: Scott County leads 18-12 all-time

Table Setter: These central Kentucky neighbors haven't met since 2002, but what better time than now to rekindle the series? Scott County has long been an established power whose name commands respect, while Franklin County may be on the fast track to joining them after coming within a hair of winning a state title last year.

The Cardinals feature one of the deepest backfields in the state with Campton Martin, Montago Jones, and Jeremy Hamilton keeping defenses off balance with their versatility as a unit. Quarterback Aaron Klein came to Georgetown from Tates Creek to pilot Jim McKee's wing-t after starting for the Commodores last season.

The Flyers will also be breaking in a new signal caller following the graduation loss of Nick Broyles, who had a stellar career in Frankfort. The new quarterback - looks like it'll be Jayden Mattison - can take comfort in the weapons around him, which includes receiver Zach Claudio and all-purpose back Kaden Moorman, a potential breakout star this season who holds offers from UK and Wisconsin. He's a gifted package of power, agility, vision, and hands. Franklin County will have the edge in defensive experience, with top tacklers Brenton Sears, Peyton Ledford, Blair Tate, Nahavian Davis, and the aforementioned Mattison all back from last year.

Interesting times in Franklin County... to be mentioned in games like this with a chance!! I am rooting for the Flyer boys to get after it, and use this game as preparation for later in the season. I would give Scott county the edge right now with all the experience in the backfield and years of playing in 5A and 6A.

Franklin County only has a few real tests (IMO) on the schedule this season, and this is one of them. James will have them ready, I like FC.

Four high quality opponents: Scott County, Corbin, Ballard, and Central. The question is what the middle class looks like. Woodford County, Shelby County, Waggener, and Madison Southern have all had their moments in recent years but who knows if that will be the case this season.

That Moorman kid for FC is a handful! If FC has someone else offensively that can keep the Cardinals from locking in on Kaden, I say FC wins by a touchdown.

Tradition never graduates, I hear that all the time from the Scott Co regime. But these Cardinals are not feared as they once were. The Flyers have had a whole summer to prep for that Cardinal offense, and if the D line stays with their assignment, they will win. Like the season opener last season vs. Station, Scott Co is vulnerable.

This should be a very entertaining game. Either a close win for Franklin Co 20-14, or a initially close game that Scott Co pulls away after the half and wins 35-20.

Woodford will be a very good and talented team.
