May 17, 20215 yr Another 4 game series. The Reds squeaked out a split versus the worst team in the NL. They will need to play a lot better against the Giants who come into this series with the best record in the NL. Sonny Gray vs Logan Webb in game one of the series. Then the Reds face three straight former Reds - DeSclafani, Gausman and Cueto.

May 17, 20215 yr My next door neighbor's daughter will be the Tuesday night Reds Hometown Hero. She is a Lieutenant in the Navy who just got back from a 1.5 year deployment (that long because of COVID-19). She was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. After a brief stay with with her family, she is headed to Annapolis to teach.

May 17, 20215 yr Well, India has had 2 chances to turn a DP and booted both, Gray should’ve had an easy scoreless first inning with 11 pitches
May 18, 20215 yr Ahh!!! It's the 30 Questions with Barry show. Key words tonight - crushing and giddy-ups. Sadek has a serious case of hero worship.
May 18, 20215 yr What's the record for the number of double plays hit into in one season, and will the Reds obliterate that record?
May 18, 20215 yr 9 hours ago, The Raven said: What's the record for the number of double plays hit into in one season, and will the Reds obliterate that record? Your question intrigued me, so I did a little deep diving this morning. The record for a team, in a year, is the 1990 Boston Red Sox, with 174 GIDP's. The NL record, is the 2011 St. Louis Cardinals, with 169. The Reds, at this moment, are averaging .85 GIDP/game...which projects to about 138. Believe it or not, there are five teams with a worse percentage. Texas (.93), Giants and Astros (both at .95), San Diego (.98) and the Yankees (1.00). *** Side note...while grounding into a double play is obviously bad (two outs on one swing of the bat)...there is a bright side, if you choose to see it. 1.) You obviously have to be getting guys on base in the first place, and B.) At least the batter isn't striking out. And I know people will have issue with the second part there. ("Hey, if he had only struck out, the guy behind him would have had a chance.") But, look at it this way. There's never a chance for a bad hop...there's never a chance for a fielder to bobble the ball...there's never the possibility of a bad exchange between fielders...there's never a chance to leg it out to first...if you don't make contact. A double play can still result in runners being moved over. Heck, a double play can score you runs. A strikeout can't. So, give me a team that's getting guys on base and making contact...even if it does lead to some more GIDP's.
May 19, 20215 yr We’ve lost 2 straight games to a team with ONE guy hitting over .250 (and he didn’t play tonight) giving up 10 runs to them, besides 2 guys we’re just awful, how long until my boy Joe B. Kicks off??
