Coach Smith was (unconventionally) announced as the new head coach at Evangel back in early November 2020 when the school announced they would be starting their football program back up after folding the team following the 2008 season. Coach Smith was named head coach at Western last March after having been an assistant coach at Seneca. He is a Seneca alum, and played college ball at UCF, North Texas and WKU. The timing for the announcement was slightly peculiar given the fact that Western's football season had not yet ended.

For undisclosed reasons, the school announced on January 7th that they were accepting applications for their boys head football coach from the school athletic department's Twitter account, but it looks like whatever issues had arisen have been cleared up.

Was looking around for a thread on here earlier. From the sound of things the AD and new coach have a rocky past, as you can tell from this way-back Card Chronical. Somebody dug it up and posted it on Twitter after they saw the announcement come out from Evangel.

I know this is a silly question from me but how can a new private school just starting a football program already have "a lot of experienced & very talented football players"???

Im sure this was all done in a very legal fashion and all transfers were for

" academic reasons"
