Duke's season is over? This after COVID-19 positive forces Blue Devils out of ACC basketball tournament

Featured Replies

Just saw on Fox Sports that Duke has to drop out of the ACC tournament after a positive Covid-19 test this morning.

"This will end our 2020-21 season," Duke athletics director Kevin White said in a statement. "We wish every team still playing college basketball good health and the very best during the next few weeks.”

"I feel deeply for our players, who have done a terrific job all season in taking care of each other and the team," coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a statement. "I am extremely proud of their collective attitudes and effort, which could not have been stronger. We are disappointed we cannot keep fighting together as a group after two outstanding days in Greensboro."

I personally think Duke would have probably made the tournament if they would have beat Florida State this evening. I'm by far no fan of Duke whatsoever, but I do hate it for the kids and the program that they will not have a shot to play their way into the tournament.

Good. Maybe Louisville will get quarantined again and I don't have to watch them lose in the first round.

They are no lock to get in.

Did I say they were?

Looks like Virginia is out of the ACC tournament because of positive tests now too.

So Georgia Tech goes on to the finals. What a weird year.

Really feel bad for these very unfortunate teams and think both should have had an opportunity to finish season.

It does suck for Duke that they didn’t get to finish their season on the court. With that said, chances are their season was going to end the very next game anyways. However, it does suck for the players that their season didn’t at least get to end while on the court.

Well, UVA is going on to the tournament. Most likely in that four line. They maybe could have gotten up to a 3 with an ACC tournament victory. Duke was going to have to win the ACC Tournament, which I don't think they would have done.

This made me laugh!

Don’t look now, but the latest “breaking” news is that Duke’s season is not over and could still be used as an at large or COVID replacement team. Duke was most likely going to lose their next round match in the ACC tournament and needed to *win* the ACC tournament to get in. Well played, Coach K. Well played.

Duke could play in the NCAA Tournament if selected as an at-large team or a COVID-replacement squad. Joe Lunardi says no way that Duke gets an at large bid into the tournament that their only hope would be as a replacement team, but Lunardi went on the say that is a very long shot that he did not believe that they would even be at top of the next 4 out. It will be interesting to see tomorrow with the first deadline tonight at 11:00pm and then the final date on Tuesday at 6:00pm.

They aren't an at-large team.  An I hope upon hope that the committee would choose some more deserving teams from the usual 1 bid conferences to be the stand by teams.  Especially in this weird year, where in person attendance isn't really a big deal.

I think Duke ends up in the field of teams in some capacity.
