Cov Cath did that in the 2018 regular season, and I think the pre-COVID version of their 2020 regular season schedule may have been the same way. I was told it had something to do with home anticipating a home game in the first round of playoffs for one year and then an away game the next...and thereby "trying to even out home game gates year to year" or some such thing, but admittedly I didn't fully understand the logic in it. gbballfan21
Scheduling quality games for a good program is not easy, and the RPI has made it more difficult. For good big schools to schedule a school like Beechwood, who they could potentially lose to, the risk reward is not very good. If they beat Beechwood, they don’t get that many points because they are a 2A school, and on the flip side, Beechwood has to be careful not to completely load the schedule with potential losses. Finding partners that make sense, that are willing to dance, is getting harder and harder, so finding a balance in home/road games becomes harder. Your hope is you get at least 3 if not 4 home playoff games to offset the gate revenue lost during the regular season.

Hopefully the KHSAA will look at the RPI for next year, it some respects it is the tail wagging the dog.

theguru
I am expecting an All-BGP type of year out of Mitchell Berger.

Beechwood is loaded. Gibbs would have started on OL last year if he hadn't tore up his knee in the last scrimmage. The only position they are replacing is CB. Both starters graduated but the players replacing them are very experienced in varsity action.

Sounds like Beechwood should open the season as the number one team in 2A.

theguru
Beechwood and Campbell County scrimmaged this morning. I was told it was total domination by Beechwood and the Tigers looked really good, the Camels not so much. Anyone?
