How are the Bears looking with Kahlil Mack?

 

JJ Watt goes down and the Texans don't miss him but without Watson how would they look?

 

The Raiders trade Mack away and get better.

 

People are raving about TJ Watt, but without Ben they most likely don't make the playoffs.

 

If the current Bengals roster has 6-8 win capability, then they should consider Young. Is this roster at full health capable of 6 wins?

 

All great points. People are just scared of the unknown. Young is probably the safer pick, just because you never know with a qb. However, it is time to stop playing it safe. Playing it safe is why they haven't tried to upgrade the qb spot the last few years when they could have had Mahomes, Watson, or Jackson. They didn't know how those qbs would turn out, so they played it safe.

 

At some point you can't play it safe. Yeah it it it is Burrow and he flops it sets them back years. However, if he ends up being a stud. Then you just completely changed the direction of your franchise for the better. It is worth the risk, and the time is now.

I never said Burrow was a cant miss did I? However, I keep seeing people say that about Chase Young. I think he will be good, but if he doesn't end up at like the Mack or Donald level. Then was it worth the top overall pick? Or say both Yount and Burrow end up being studs, was it worth going with a DE? We have seen teams with great DEs not do much, until they get a QB.

 

Donald was great but didn't help the Rams transform until their offense became great. Mack has only had 2 winning seasons ever I think. With one of those years being when Oaklands offense was pretty good.

 

Let's just say worst case scenario Youngs career ends up like Clowneys? Would it be worth it if Burrow does end up a stud?

 

There is no guarntee Young will be elite, he probably would be good and probably a safer pick. However, and it is a risk but if they get the qb spot right and say Burrow is a stud. It has a much bigger impact than Young ever would on the franchise. That's a risk worth taking imo.

 

Your entire argument is based on the premise that Burrow lives up to the hype and Young doesn't. That's not a hill I'd choose to die on, but to each his own.

Honestly it depends on Jonah Williams. Jonah Williams was supposed to be the best tackle in the draft last year. If he truly ends up being that, and then at the top of the second round draft a guard, which is the range where you usually find a good guard. Their line would be much improved.

 

Draft Burrow and then that should be the whole focus doing whatever you can to help him succeed. Which how Jonah William's ends up doing will go a long way in that regard.

Here are the problems with these type of debates.

 

Most say Reggie White is the greatest defensive end of all time. Let's say Young equals that. I just did a quick google search of top 100 QBs of all time (Bleacher Report) and went to the middle of the list to find #50. On this list you had #50, Phillip Rivers and #51, Drew Bledsoe. Neither are world beaters, but the measured impact they had on their franchises when they played is exponentially more than what Reggie White ever had. Around this point in the debate an argument can be made for Young. But let's say one of these QBs are in that 30-40 range, then it is a no-brainer which way you go if you feel your QB can be that.

Chase Young is the better, more dominant player. That's not really up for debate, IMO.

 

It will be up to each individual franchise to determine who they would benefit from more. It will be different for every team.

I can't remember who I was listening to, but they were saying Chase Young's draft grading is off the charts.

If they both turn out to be great. Top 5-10 at their position for their generation, then I want the QB. But, for me I prefer other QB's over Burrow in this draft and I want an athletic QB that can create on the move. Ultimately, I like the idea of trading down and accumulating picks. The Bengals will never be active in free agency, so to get better it must come from the draft and they need ALOT of help. To answer the question here though, if I only get the Young or Burrows choice give me Young.

I’m not sure what Cam Newton they would be getting if they made a move like this. I’m not sure Cam will ever be healthy enough to get back to being Cam.

They still have Andy Dalton under contract for next year. I would go with that over broken down Cam Newton.

There is zero chance the Bengals sign a free agent QB to be their starter. Dalton is under contract at a budget friendly salary. The Bengals are not going to fork out experienced free agent QB money.

The Bengals would have to spend more money to sign Newton, than they would a rookie qb. The Bengals actually will even be saving a lot of money by having a rookie QB instead of Dalton. With the rookie pay scales, top rookie qbs don't break the bank anymore.
