Allen is the best quarterback in the State with out a doubt and will win MR Football with his numbers,media and commitment to Ky. I do think Reese Smith is the best player but will not get enough votes especially committing out of State. That shouldn’t be a factor but it will effect voting. Smith and Mayer are a long shot but no one else on the list has a shot.

If these ratings hold up, when was the last time a team had 2 players in the top 4 choices for Mr. Football? Maybe Male when Bob Redman was coach?

Maybe it is more recent than I can recall, but when was the last time KY had 3 (or more) kids going Power 5 (including Notre Dame) at QB / skill positions? Really nice class.

I will be BEYOND shocked if the Top 3 for Mr. Football aren't Michael Mayer, Beau Allen, and Reese Smith in some order. I think you can make a compelling case for all 3 (and probably a couple of others), and goodness knows each voter has their own set of criteria they measure by, but I'd guess those 3 are the top three when the dust settles.

Both are great QB’s and deserve all they get. I hope everyone understands how much easier it is to play QB and how much better you look when you have time to throw without pressure in your face every play and also when you are throwing to open receivers. It is really hard to compare QBs because pass protection and throwing to open receivers makes a huge difference in production and stats.

This weekly list is in no way a reflection of any official Mr. Football standings. This was just a project of mine that BGP signed off on last year. I just want to put that out there for anyone that may have thought otherwise.

 

To answer your question, there have been several years where one school featured multiple Mr. Football finalists, but the only year I know of where one school had two of the top four was 1998 when Jared Lorenzen won it and teammate Derek Smith was runner-up.

Last year

Hightower leads the state in rushing and has done it the majority of the season. Ranks 3rd in the nation and has been top five for weeks. With Louisville knocking at the door and averaging 10+ yards a carry I would think he would be in the top 3 with Beau.

I agree and have said that. You won't get many, if any from the Louisville, Lexington,Northern KY triangle on here to acknowledge a great player from the West. Hightower and Hayes from McCracken should be way up the list and I think they will receive a lot of votes. Some would award the Mr. Football based on who's going to a D1 college or award it before the year starts. The media shouldn't do that, but some will. If Hightower or Hayes were on Trinity, Boyle or Highlands, their praises would be sung.

What is everybody's input on this award on whether it is a career or single season award? I have no idea. Can you tell us a little more about their past accomlishments? Everybody that keeps up with KY Football knows who they are they have made a statement especially Hightower.

Junior: 1769 yds, 23 TD, 136 per game avg.

SR through 8 games: 1870 yds, 233 per game avg.

 

On pace to break Sonny Collins' (Former Record Holder @ UK before Snell) @ North Hopkins if they have a deep run.

 

Also was a leader on the team that played Franklin Simpson (back to back state champs) to the wire last year to go to state.

Again, understanding every voter is going to have their own personal criteria, are you of the opinion that what school has offered a kid shouldn't be a factor? You have to agree that College Football Coaches (Recruiters) know more about how good a player is than journalists covering one portion of the state....right?

Is this award for the best high school football player or the high school football player that has the most potential in college? There seems to me to be a big difference.
