Serious question, because I know there was an accident a few years ago, and I haven't been to a game in the Fort in longer: is there still a cannon?

I think I read in a past thread that they have a professional pyrotechnics crew on one of the building rooftops these days. I don't know whether they're shooting off the actual cannon itself or if they're firing off something else just to sound like it.

I was there a couple weeks ago. It's on the roof now, and it's every bit as loud as the cannon was.

This will be the seventy-first meeting of these two teams. They first played on Sept 20, 1968. The series record stands at 49-21 in Highlands' favor, with a regular season record of 36-15 and a playoff record of 13-6, both also in Highlands favor.

 

In the last 10 years, the series record has been 12-4, once again in Highlands' favor, but Covington Catholic has won the each of the last 4 meetings straight by a 33 point scoring margin averaged over the 4 games.

 

I've been told that this first ever meeting between Highlands and Cov Cath was also the first ever time the cannon made an appearance at a Highlands football game.

Speaking of cannons, I saw this on Twitter not too long ago. I don't care who you are...this is a cool picture. Props to Captain Nieporte for serving his country and cheering on his alma mater.
