IF you could change 1 thing about the new playoff system...

They are several coaches and fans that are not to fond of the new set up. They are some that think it’s a good idea. Tell us one thing you would changed about it? You can also tell us more if you’d like.

My opinion on the situation, is I would like to keep cross districting in play. Just keep it simple with D1 vs. D2, and so on up the line. As we all know after week two in some classes they will be some dang good teams sitting home and getting ready for Basketball season.

Instead of playing the two post-season games within your own district, simply send the district champ and runner-up, determined by regular season play to the next round of games. This would make the regular season more meaningful and eliminate two rounds of the playoffs that are going to probably produce the same results.

Go back to cross district play for the first 3 rounds.

We need to go back to 4 classes instead of 6. I feel like every team in the state makes playoffs. If not, then only do 4 playoff games instead of 5. Too many crappy teams that are 0-10, 1-9, 2-8 making playoffs. I guess it's the world we live in where everyone gets a trophy.

As far as new Playoff format, I'm not a fan of playing the same teams from your district in the first few rounds. I like seeing different teams from the state come play. I also don't like how a very good team could be eliminated by round 2. Example, I'm a Covcath graduate, to know that either CCH or Highlands will be eliminated in round 2 kind of sucks. I always enjoyed playing them for regional title in round 3.

If I only get one thing...

We will use "seeding" by RPI which is already in place so that doesn't count..

My wish:

Only three teams per District make the playoffs and the Semi-States are seeded 1-12 and the four district champions get an automatic BYE.

I think neutral sites starting in the quarterfinals is THE answer to all of this.

This would be my second wish.

Give me my first wish and this second wish and we are cooking with peanut oil.

- No more winless teams making the playoffs and probably no 1-win or 2-win teams.

- Preserve the sanctity of winning your District so those games stay valuable.

- Less First Round blowouts.

- No cross state road trips.

- If the second best team in a Semi-State plays in the same District as the #1 team, they don't have to be eliminated Round 2 and can meet usually in the Semi's.

- Seeding still encourages scheduling tough in non-District games.

- For those like Jumper_Dad who still like seeing "fresh meat" in the playoffs, you get your wish in most cases as you might not ever have to see a fellow District team potentially.

Totally agree about taking the top 2 teams from each district. At the very least take top 3 with 1 seed getting a bye. Those 0-10 and 1-9 teams are not celebrating making the playoffs. Their reward is to go get blown out again. Makes no sense.

Add a margin of victory component to RPI. Cap Margin of victory at 36 points to keep from score being run up. MOV Avg/36 X .25 + WP X .50 + WPO X .25= RPI

I think it is to watered down sending 4 teams I think just the top two from each district should advance to the playoffs.imo

My only issue with that is Class 2A District 1 (Mayfield, Caldwell County, Murray), 3A District 4 (DeSales, CAL, Mercer County), 4A District 1 (Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Logan County), and 6A District 3 (Butler, St. X, Manual)

Each of these Districts have three Top 10 teams in them and three teams more than capable of making a lengthy playoff run.

We see three-way District ties all the time for the Championship fairly regularly, but we never see 4-way ties. We also see opposing 3-seeds beating 2-seeds fairly regularly, but it is very uncommon to see a 4-seed beat a 1-seed.

I think 3 teams per District is the perfect number. It also allows you to reward those District Champions with a First Round Bye for getting the job done.

I see your point, but at the same time it makes the regular season district games matter all the more. Imagine how much bigger Mercer Co.'s win over Cal would have been if it had playoff implications. Only 1 of those 3 teams is going to have the opportunity at a ring, why prolong that in to the post season as opposed to making the district games matter during the season?

-- Reduce the number of classes to five

-- Allow schools with an enrollment of 300 or less to play 8-man football. Any small school that wants to give football a trial run can use 8-man football to get their feet wet. You can't play both 8 and 11 man football

-- Get rid of the current scheduling grid required by schools and allow them to schedule district games after week two and before week nine (first two weeks and last two weeks). So many schools are hamstrung by the limitations that some really bad matchups occur as a result. You also have schools having to travel out of state to fill a 10-game schedule.

--Top three schools in each district advance to the post season. Regular season champs get a first round bye. They would play the winner of the third place team in their district and the second place team of the other district. Good teams aren't going to be bothered by a first round bye unless their bye week is week 11. That is an issue the new scheduling system would fix.
