The first big play of the game is on the Belfry staff.

On Pikeville's first score, before the Half trailing 14-0, the Panthers do what they have done no less than 7 times in the past 10 years and hard counted the XP attempt to draw Belfry offsides. With the ball half the distance to the goal they punched in the conversion thta would ultimately prove the difference in score.

Belfry led 21-8 after the opening drive of the 2nd Half, and then the self inflicted wounds began to pop up. A procedure penalty on the kickoff followed by a kickoff out of bounds set Pikeville up at the 40. The Panthers put a nice drive together and closed it out with a pretty pass to make it 21-15.

The Panthers forced a three and out and took over on the eventual game winning drive. Facing a 3rd and 11 MacNamee evaded pressure and founds Rains who got upfield for a key conversion. The Panthers had started to use their short passing game well, and they set Belfry up beautifully by pump faking the short route and beating them over the top for a long score.

Belfry had a great drive going and was marching it with relative ease into Pikeville territory, but Isaiah Birchfield (filling in for Isaac Dixon who did not play), coughed it up at potentially the worst time.

Belfry's Defense did what they needed, but Belfry made an interesting decision to use their last two timeouts on 3rd and 4th Down. The Pirates nearly gaffed the punt unnecessarily and that set the tone for their final drive.

After a nice gain by Peyton Hensley, Belfry would have an untimely false start that not only cost them 5 yards but a ton of clock. Belfry hit a long pass play and was in business, but proceeded to follow it up with another costly false start and with time wasting they broke the huddle with 12-men. All told they wasted nearly a minute of clock and now faced a 1st and 20.

Going to the air, Belfry eventually turned it over again.

May have watched 1A and 3A champs tonight. Congratulations to Pikeville. Down by two touchdowns they fought their way back into the game. When Belfry gets Dixon healthy and hopefully Mounts the linebacker is ok, they are going to be a very good football team
