I think there is also an impact because the recruits never really get to become fans of the program over the course of their senior and even junior season. Lock them in early, and you know they follow with direct intent all winter...

Yup. The more I dissect it, I think this is the single major flaw with recruiting at UK. Take a look at Thad up the road. He's already working on 2010 kids and has 2 top 25 for 08 in the bag....

Tubby and recruiting has always been a problem and I think personally that part of that problem is his chief recruiter (Scott Rigot) wasn't that his primary job when he was hired? Shake ups has to happen on that staff for them to be successful.

One thing I really like that Tubby has done is hes gotten more involved himself in recruiting. I really think Rigot and Hanson have done a poor job. I look for Finney to be more and more involved in recruiting. This year, I believe the staff did better. They have been on Patterson for a long time now as well as Lucas, but they both decided to wait. Also, I think if Moses would have signed early if he had gotten his test scores in on time and been able to visit.

 

But I do agree, Tubby should be recruiting players who are sophomores in hs right now.

I agree with alot that you said here...Personally, and I know that I will be bashed for saying this, I think it is time for Hanson and Rigot be gone. I know Reggie is one of the boys but I just don't see him bringing too much to the table and obviously some of the people that has interviewed him for head coaching jobs doesn't either.......Rigot, I never understood that hire.

What's a recruiter going to sell at UK? Come play for our slow down half court offense. You can sit on the bench for two years behind Sheray Thomas or Saul Smith before taking your turn...

 

Tubby hasn't exactly given them a leg up from that aspect. It's hard to land a 5-star athlete when you're recruiting against teams that actually deliver on their promises to play faster.

:thumb: That was my understanding of it anyway. Imo our ecruit is the biggest problem with things. I know that is the understatement of the year but I think that Hansen and Rigot have done TERRIBLE jobs for the most part. OTS needs to get more personally -"one on one" involved imo. I have heard that Patterson has attitude/discipline problems a plenty, I don't know and won't speculate on it any more other than we need his kind of talent but we don't need another "Rondo" type attitude. JMO.

This is true. Also, this happened with Brandan Wright. He wanted to go to UK, has been a fan since he was little, Hanson did not seal the deal, and UNC came in and got him at the eleventh hour. Can you imagine this team with Hansborough, Wright, SWAT, and Morris? Man, what a front line at the Power Forward and Center.

There would have not been enough playing time for these four players on the same team. Swat would spend a lot of time on the bench behind Wright IMO.

If Hansborough did come here, then we wouldn't have gotten Wright anyways, because he wouldn't want to come and sit the bench and that is what he would have done with Hansborough and Morris in front of him...I will say this we should have been able to get one of them though, and that is why even though I dont agree with alot of you all in wanting to fire Tubby, I do agree that we need to get rid of some of the assistant coaches...
