This thread is amusing. Posters from the thread in the preseason who were defending the shakeup now are criticizing now that their team's RPI is lower. You guys crack me up. I'll play along - yay, Bardstown, #3 RPI in 3A!

After 2 straight years of going on the road for the Semi-Finals because of new structuring in the Class, I'm ready to try something else. :thumb:

I don't disagree with you there. Cov Cath did the same in the last two seasons. In the state semifinals, having an undefeated team make a 2-1/2 hour road trip to play a team that has lost two games, or if you want to take it a step further, having a team that's undefeated in-state travel like that to play a team that has lost in-state is just dumb. I'd argue that whether it was my team, or any other team having to make that trip.

 

I guess I'm kind of hopeful that the RPI's will shake out to look "prettier" come playoff time, but I'm not keeping my fingers crossed. I've got to think that there will be just as many or more complaints about this system than there have been the past few years.

Ironically, had this system not been implemented, Boyle County would have been entitled to homefield all the way up to the state title game if they won the district. The RPI may smooth out, but right now it would put Boyle County right back on the road for the playoffs.

That’s true. But I’d rather have the record guide the advantages rather than an odd or even year.

Hypothetically, if two teams went undefeated playing the exact same schedule their RPI would be identical. One team wins every game in a blowout the other wins each game by a TD or less, RPI doesn't factor that in. At some point game control needs to be factored in. Maybe give extra credit for a running clock game or 28+ point victory, but give equal credit once given regardless of how large the final margin is.

I would think the chances would be long because of the "opponents opponents" factors. At least I think that's the 3rd part of the 3 legged stool of wins/losses, opponents record, opponents opponents.

The tiebreaker will sequentially be as follows for this unlikely scenario. It is as follows:

Head-to-head result between the two teams

Winning percentage

Opponents’ winning percentage

Opponents’ opponents winning percentage

Highest-rated win (according to the final RPI standings)

Next-highest rated win (exhaust all possibilities)

Coin flip – The only reason for the coin flip is as a last result if all other scenarios happen to be tied.
