The victim sounds like she has evidence beyond "he said/she said". There apparently are messages from AB that support her story.

I am not saying any of this has to do with the most recent allegation, but in less than a year Brown has been accused of throwing furniture from an apartment, nearly killing a toddler, found guilty of reckless driving by clocking over 100 mph, the mother of his kid accused Brown of assault, sued for not paying a personal chef $38,000, sued for not paying his personal trainer $7,100, and now this most recent allegation. Again, I am not saying any of those incidents are related to the rape allegation, but it is worth noting.

Perception is often said to be reality. Has AB done anything in the last year to suggest he remotely conducts himself in any fashion that mimics sanity and of standards acceptacle to civilized members of society. I don't know that anything that comes out of his mouth can be measured on any scale as credible.

I think your statistic has to do with cases that come to trial. My understanding is that there are many more rape allegations that do not go to trial because the police investigation deems them not credible or lacking in evidence. If that is true, then the percentage of false rape allegations are much higher.

 

A quick google search led to an abstract of a study in a small midwestern town where 41% of rape allegations were false. The study covered a ten year period.

The reasons for making a false rape charge fell primarily in three categories: "providing an alibi, a means of gaining revenge, and a platform for seeking attention/sympathy." These conclusions are not the conjecture of the researchers but are taken from the words of the alleged victims when they recanted the charge of rape.

So, it appears false rape allegations are much more common than we hear because many of these allegations are shown to be false before they go to trial.

 

This highlights the importance of the presumption of innocence. The starting point should be to take the charge seriously by thoroughly investigating the charge. But equally important is maintaining the presumption of innocence until the evidence proves otherwise.

Say what you want, but my first instinct when someone accuses a professional athlete of rape is to question it.
